Got this off my KLR board

Thank god nobody owns an orange bike here..

...

Recent recall announcements filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration include reports of flawed motorcycle handlebar assemblies that could cause riders to suddenly lose control.

Polaris Industries, a maker of motorcycles, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and other power-sports equipment, is recalling certain Victory Cross Country motorcycles from the 2011 model year because their handlebar clamps or risers may have been machined improperly.

As a result the clamps could allow the bars to move or slip unexpectedly. Such sudden movement of the handlebars could lead to a crash.

The recall affects 840 bikes built from Jan. 1 through April 11 of this year. Polaris says its dealers will replace defective riser and clamp assemblies free of charge. The recall is expected to begin this month 2011. Owners may contact Victory at 888-704-5290.

Off-road motorcycle specialist KTM is recalling certain bikes form the 2010 and 2011 model years because their handlebar clamps may form cracks due to improper heat treatment during the manufacturing process. The problem can lead to the bars loosening and moving around unexpectedly.

The recall includes 1,228 KTM 450 EXC, 530 EXC and 690 Enduro R, and Husaberg FE 570 and 570s models built from November 2009 through October 2010. Under the recall, which is to begin this month, KTM dealers will replace the defective clamps free of charge. Customers can contact KTM at 888-985-6090.

This Rowher is what I'm looking for. So I know where it is, but can I ride there?
I'd be riding my Strom up there. It's plated in TX (because I live there) . Would I be allowed to ride there? Would I have to buy a sticker?

h8chains' pictures have me dreaming of a trip from Oxnard this weekend.

Stopping on the way up for a picture. I just came up this lower section.

Kool-aid anyone?

Made it to the top in one piece.

I took a bunch of the offshoots near the top and then headed down towards the reservoir via the fire road. On the way back up - challenge time again. I took the center section of the 4x4 trail from where it intersects with the fire road.

This is as far as I got, but these two riders made it up no problem. The dude went up with his front tire in the air and his lady came up right behind him. I was impressed. The section just up from here was seriously steep.

So back to the fire road for me then all the way to the west along the ridge to where fence prevents you from going any further (this is just past the second concrete pad). Sure, I'll have another glass of Kool-aid, thanks!

From there I headed down Sierra Pelona to where it intersects with Bouquet. I didn't even realize there was another way to get in to Rowher from Bouquet. Here is the entrance.
and then back up Sierra Pelona to Rush Canyon and down towards the staging area. I took Mine trail to Texas trail and back to Staging Area 1. The plants are tall - handlebar height. It makes it pretty difficult to see if someone is coming the other way.
Here's the GPS track plotted.

very nice, did similar on friday... no GPS for me, was concern about getting lost so i left my GPS at home

for jul and aug, a trip to the west side of the sierra is on order, even a ride along the coast line will be great and camp somewhere near nascimiento will be nice. with the 950, it seems the travel time between 2 points become shorter. and yes, i hate to see the big ktm sitting in the backyard....
Let me know. I am up for a big bike ride with camping.

Speaking of Carrizo, a few of us sidecaristas are heading out there this coming weekend... mostly to see the sights, but also to drink some beer, sip some good scotch.. maybe smoke a good cigar, etc. The link is here.

I'm thinking about throwing my Cobb grill in the hack and figuring out how to BBQ a steak.
Note..... I dont cook/BBQ at all.. my wife loves to do it and has being doing it for 37 years so far. So much to learn.

Would love to. I would need more than a weeks notice to get this planned.

Anyone know if you can take Old Ridge Route from Lake Hughes road all the way up to Gorman Post Road?

Planning on maybe riding up to Hungry Valley through there instead of taking Lake Elizabeth rd

maybe coming back through 7N23 from Pine Cyn. to the top of Lake Hughes.

Don't want to plan an outing around locked gates

Basically this route - no FWY since I'm on a 200

Last time I tried, two years ago, a locked gate was involved.
