Don't want to plan an outing around locked gates

Basically this route - no FWY since I'm on a 200

lol, i have a short memory, and thus i don't remember anyone has ever done the old ridge road; likewise, we discouraged doing illegal roads and trails on this thread....

plenty of dirt at rohwher flats and lake lizabeth for the tw200.

GF wants to do an 'overnighter' with me for my bday (I rode to Seattle and back as an overnighter once, so I think our concepts of 'overnight' are different) but she's not used to a lot of saddle time all at once so we were just going to stop at Gorman in the evening, go play in Hungry Valley the next morning, then ride tarmac back in the afternoon through Bouquet.

So 7N23 should still be a viable option to get up there?

Has anyone started a Kennedy Meadows trip thread yet? If so I haven't seen it. I won't make WMRS this year, so I need a late high country ride before it gets snowed in.

I went two years ago and it was awsome. reports indicate it's still snowed in right now and not yet open. When I went, it was in the month of Sep and the weather, water crossings, and trails were PERFECT. I'm hoping to make it up there this year. after my knee is fixed and healed

There's been a Kennedy Meadows trip posted for a while now. You can find it in the "Up and coming rides in the west" sticky.

You're gonna want something smaller than the KLR. The XChallenge is a little too big for some of the tight stuff.

I did start a thread in the West and from the upcoming sticky you can get the link to the main thread in the west. That is how that sticky is intended to be used so you dont have to search through pages to find a thread. Yes it is a Riders Online ride and you are invited as is all ADV.

We went last year for the first time.i was glAd I was on the wr. Although there is lots of street legal dirt roads up there that would be fun, I wouldn't hesitate to just take the dr up there if I had to.

I used to ride my '88 Yamaha XT600 up there back in the late 80s & 90s; there was WAY more dirt on the trails than there is now.

A KLR will be a handful at KM on the tighter trails, I would easily ride my XR650L up there though.

Having a street legal bike gives you the option of riding back to camp on the roads, which I did illegally last year on my WR250.

I've read that KM won't open until late June at the earliest! The snow pack is melting slowly.

I'm a big fan of the Big Bear area now!
