even with the light off the stock stator can't keep up with the fan use at low engine speed, and forget about nite riding in the summer, just my 2 c's

Fri 7/1: Ride to Toroweap & camp with the wonderful ranger Todd
Sat 7/2: Ride to Vegas (Westin Casuarina on my Starwood points)
Sun 7/3: Ride home (OC)

I ride a GSA and want to do a "big bike friendly" ride. I'd love to do this with someone who's done it before.

PM me if you'd like to go and/or have advice. Sounds like from previous trips it's a good idea to limit it to 6 people?

hi eric, once you're up in southern utah, there are 3 ways you can get to toroweap (from colorado city, hurricane, and st. george). all 3 roads are interconnected by navajo trail. minimum gas you need to have is 300 miles range (i'm sure your gsa has more than that).

ranger todd will strictly enforce the 6 people and 2 vehicles per campsite. 1 motorcycle is counted as 1 vehicle, size doesn't matter.

if you stay on the main road, no problem for big bikes. the ride down to the canyon from bar10 may be tough for others, but after this weekend riding with you, you should have no issue. you can always turn around if you don't like it.

have a good time.

Looks like weekend plans may have changed...

any recommendations on n00b friendly routes to hit in sequoia nat'l forest?

Saw there's some trails like freeway ridge or rancheria road, but something that takes us through the woods would be awesome...

any suggestions?

freeway ridge is a tough one. if you decide to do it, there's a gate to get there from hw178. call the ranger first since it may be locked.

rancheria is easy, graded dirt road - not sure if there's still snow near the top (closer to kernville).....anyone been there lately?...

you may have to go farther north..bass lake area. never been there, but planning to do it next month or so.

1) Mojave McDonalds to parking area @Dove Springs (31.9 miles)
2) Pkg area to McIver Cabin (23.6 miles)

"Big bike-friendly," of course. ;)

what i should have bought is a 450. the 540 is a wasted bike if i keep it.
Is it carb'd or EFI? I'm not familiar with the 540.

Another option is to go a touch taller on the final drive gearing to smooth/lengthen the power delivery in each gear.

Anybody up for a quick blast to the Rock Inn on Saturday? Not sure if I can make it or not yet, just throwing it out there. Meet at SA #1 Rowher at 7am? Haul ass up the steep side and take the dirt the rest of the way, maybe one or two stops? Back at SA #1 by 11?

the earlier the better, but i'm out this weekend.

bob, once we get some cooler weather, we need your help to try some of those single tracks and hill climbs. i'm familiar with all the fireroads, but i could easily get lost elsewhere. you know the place very well.

btw, when are you going to repaint the 530 so no one can single you out?.....
