After lunch we headed up Refugio Rd. These guys don't know the correct way to cross a slippery stream crossing.

Pay attention. (Thanks Joel)

Joel rides that KTM so fast he's just a blur now.

Making our way up West Camino Cielo.

The Blur.

As we ride the ridgeline we get some amazing views.

Broadcast Peak.

I think it's this one that should bring back memories for Riddler.

UCSB and Goleta

On a real clear day you could see many of the Channel Islands from up here.

To our left is Lake Cachuma.

To our right is Santa Barbara. This is about as scenic as it gets.

Oh yeah, we were riding, weren't we?

Here's a picture with a motorcycle in it.

And another.

Ok, back to riding.

After finishing West Camino Cielo we rode past the Painted Cave to complete our tour.

Jon F approaching the painted cage.

We headed back to Summerland via East Camino Cielo again where we got some final views of downtown Santa Barbara minus the fog.

And the harbor.

After extending our ride as long as possible, we eventually made it back to the trucks and headed home.

Overall it was a perfect day of riding. Nobody hurt, no bike issues, about as much fun scenic riding as you could handle in day, good food and good company.

yes, it was a perfect day. we hit all the possible good places we planned on doing.

the only issue i saw was the fuel range. we could have gone farther on dirt at camuesa(?) but we made a wise decision to turn around and gas up in santa ynez. my estimate is we did 160 miles (summerland and back to summerland)

Had Duy been there he could have refilled everybody.

cathy, east camino cielo is a great road for the vstrom. you will like it. you can extend your ride along the beautiful foothills of santa barbara and montecito. eric took us there on the way back to the trucks. great restaurants in summerland too.

So passing in the corners is what's left..... a slower rider should slow down on the staight as soon as they know
a faster rider is behind them.... not after a few turns... yes I know Its not a race but we all have a speed we like and
that's what makes it fun.
I like slid'in and fly'in the bike and that needs speed
bob, maybe you're not as fast as you think since you can't pass the slow rider on the straight....just kidding.

yes, it was a good thing there was a foot deep rut in the middle, that assured me that you will not switch lane and take over my clean line.....

i posted before the ride, that this will be a mellow and relax ride, however, you still want to do your own fast pace and style..... no worry, we love your company regardless.

anyway, i agree with bob that slower riders should allow the faster riders to pass them "NOT JUST WHEN IT"S CLEAR, BUT ALSO WHEN YOU'RE COMFORTABLE". please understand, nOObs don't have the same mental toughness as the experienced riders.

slow riders, once you sense someone is tailgating you, find a clear straight section, and make room for the fast rider to pass safely. leave the passing rider plenty of room to get back on the right lane.

fast riders, before you make the pass, show yourself on the left side so the slower rider can see you on the side mirror. honk if you have to, it won't hurt someone's feeling. once the slow rider acknowledge you are there, the slow rider should make a gesture, like waving or pull over to the right and give room to the passing rider.

fast riders, please pass safely and return the favor with "respect", not cutting abruptly in front or roosting the poor nOOb. less dust will provide better visibility for the rider behind. again, passing on corners and uphills can lead to someone getting injured, or worse, to a fatality. plus the damage on the bike and the inability to ride it back to the truck or home.

bottom line, live and let live.

I think it makes perfect sense. Since it is on it's side a lot, just like this picture, it is easier to read your license plate on pictures.
I missed a great ride...

next ride

WMRS is just 4 days away for those planning to leave on FRIDAY.

who else wants to join us?

the plan is ride from home on friday to hw99 across the sierra via tioga (?). return sunday, and monday for others.

riders
fyypp
m1jeep
8)H
fudgypup
spafxer?
pcvance (visalia)

can we meet at castaic like 10am this friday?

post up here, instead of PM.

good chance we will get to the east side of the sierra (395) by friday afternoon. since more riding to be had on saturday and they are north of mammoth, i suggest we camp near tioga pass. i'm thinking of walker lake or meet some of the good PPs camping near june lake.

next morning, ride to bodie or as far as walker pass.

saturday night, camp at the same spot or go down to brown's camp and join the festivity.

sunday, pack em up, ride south, check out wmrs, then ride home.

I actually would like to come back on Sunday too, so that works well for me.

I like the idea of staying at Browns Sat if that works.

As for Friday, I just hope we don't have too much traffic! That would suck.

yeah, the good old days.

randal, it would have been more exciting if we were able to use all the tracks you gave us.

i know, lots of peeps have opinions on the tioga friday traffic. someone said put up with the traffic, cuz the reward of seeing tioga is big.

stupid question: we're on bikes, does that put as in an advantage? i will think so.
