Joel - this place is open, just not every day. I got gas there twice on my trip.

the empty station; not sure if it's closed for good

joel,

instead of getting reamed 30 bucks for a new tube, next time stop at one of the roadside "llanteras" (tire shops).

they'll have that tube patched up in a jiffy usually for about 5 bucks, 10 at the most.

good RR, i really need to get back to baja. might have to invite myself on your next ride down there.

tim, we're relying on them so we can make it to coco's corner, i guess you bought all they have. it would have been a different story if i was riding the 640A.
let's see your pics and rr...

that's right, there are llanteras everywhere, like starbucks here. not only i got reamed, also threw away my hd inner tube because just too heavy to carry.

after lunch and a quick break, mark stayed and i rode back solo to san felipe

quite a priviledge being alone on this highway

tenants must be descendants of noah

nearing san felipe

didn't want to stay at hotel caribe again...no hot water and $50 is a lot of money. i rode along the coast and found an rv resort thriving with vacationers from north of the border

for $20, i got this one. hot showers too.

my neighbor that night was markus. traveling around the world with his wife anita on a superduty camper; we got along right away when we start talking bmw bikes....

an accomplished rider, had a gsa and been to many countries (red route); my kind of guy!

my camp is 50 feet away from the beach

so are the bikes, like the l.a. riders

i want to go back to this place

a room without walls but with a view

early in the morning, waited for the sun as it rises above the water and watched; something we will never see from los angeles and the west coast

at 7am, everyone still in bed

packed and ready to roll; only markus and anita were up and they bid me good bye, safe ride and a happy new year

instead of taking tecate, i decided to take hw5 all the way to calexico. it was a 250 mile ride straight to the border then to san diego.

never bored, the baja sights are humbling and somewhat enterntaining.

crossing the dry lake bed (laguna salada) seems endless

125 miles later, i reached calexico

the border crossing was uneventful. i could have stayed for 3 more days in baja, but i got a summon from gf that i need to be with her for the new year's eve festivity.....

there my baja holiday ended....though it was short, still it was a great feeling that i was able to sneaked out for one more last ride in 2011.

thanks to all for reading the RR, and i hope you enjoyed it.

if you missed this one, i'm planning to go back in feb or march, a 2 1/4 day trip. prep up your big bike, it will be more fun, not as buzzy as the 640, and it will be more comfy on those long stretches.

looking forward for more adventure rides in 2012. cheers!
