Anyone riding anywhere this weekend? I was thinking about riding over to Rowher for some easy fire roads and the easiest trails. (Pending getting the bike out of the shop again)

THOSE WHO WANTS TO PROCEED WITH PLAN A, PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS STOP YOU. I HAVE THE FEELING YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT WEATHER LIKE THE PREVIOUS YEARS WE HAD.

PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE THIS, SO AS NOT TO CONFUSE ANYONE. I MAY BE EDITING THIS LATER IF WE HAVE CHANGES AND WILL REPOST.

CARRIZO/POZO RIDE AND CAMP

JANUARY 28 - 29
High Mountain and La Panza Campgrounds are open. NO FEE, but everyone must have an ADVENTURE PASS.

Peeps, this is our 1st ADV group ride this year.

Ride any bike, as long you can keep up with the rest of the group
Bike must be in good mechanical condition, properly maintained and with good tires
Bring all the essential spare parts
This is not a race, the rider in front will be responsible for the rider behind him or her. Unless it’s obvious, stop at all Ys or Ts and wait for the next rider.
Stop before and after a water crossing, big ruts, and other hazards and make sure the rider in front and behind get through safely. Warn the person behind if needed.
No Rogue Riders or Lurkers who will show up on the day of the ride and hi-jack other riders or set the riding pace!
IT WILL BE THE RIDE LEADER OF EACH GROUP WHO WILL SET UP THE PACE.

Skill Level: Intermediate or greater; there are easy bypasses for the less skilled riders, bring your gps and I can direct you to those routes.

The plan:

Saturday
7:00 – 7:30 AM - Meet at the Shell Station on Lyons Ave/FW5, Valencia
Ride north to hw126, head west to Santa Paula (37 miles)

8:15 – 8 30 AM – Gas Station in Santa Paula just off the HW126
Ride north via Ojai Rd /hw150 (16 miles)

9:00 – 10:00 Breakfast in Ojai
Ride north via HW33 and regroup, take a short break at the Ranger Station off HW33 before Lockwood Valley Road (38 miles).
Continue to ride north, and make a right on Quatal then left on CerroNoroeste to hw166 to Maricopa (55 miles)

1:30-2:00 PM Maricopa Shell Gas Station
Ride to Carrizo via Elkhorn to hw58 to Pozo Saloon for early dinner (78 miles)

4:30-5:00 Set Up Camp (Hi Mountain Campground or La Panza); this week it is around 35F in the evening, so wear your best winter riding gear.

Sunday
Ride out of hi-mountain road (dirt road) and to the Pacific Coast to Santa Maria (46 miles). Breakfast at Pappys, on Betteravia Rd @ 10AM.

Afterwards, we decide if we want to do West and East Camino Cielos. Maybe, have lunch at the Singing Tavern.

THE LIST

NAME/BIKE/CAMPING OR NOT

i will have gps routes for this ride.

i need to know who are coming so we can split the groups into 2 or more according to their skill level, and designate a ride leader for each group.

Depending on the weather, I'm doing almost the same loop, but with a stop out to Lake Elizabeth and the Rock Inn for some libation and eats. I live in the SCV and can meet at the top of Lyons if anyone else interested. If the weather holds, I know some fairly interesting loops easy to the insane since I have been riding these here parts for a 30 years.

If I don't quote "this post" how does one track the qty of people going?

Is there an official signup list somewhere?

I have a friend who wants to go.

just post up and i update the list afterwards. we should keep only 1 list so as not to confuse others, and minimize eating up valuable mems of the adv server.

I'd be in for a morning ride and then beer and football in the afternoon! However, I'd want to stick with the "fairly easy" part of your loop.

If the weather turns out a bit foul..less that hardy adventure souls, its a no go. If the weather turns our better that Fritz said it would be, I would be more inclined to hump on over the the Carizo to meet some of the inmates. I've done that loop in one day many times from here. Chances are, the morning ride will be just about the only time this weekend based on current forecasts. They do broadcast the games at the Rock Inn, and the last time I heard, the beer's pretty good too. If ya was inclined.

i constantly get PMs from new riders in addition to ususal PMs. i prefer you post them here, do not be shy. do not hesitate to give out your skill and experience, description of bike and equipment. this way it will be easier for us to guide you in the right direction.

i always here to help new riders, but would rather spend my time in trip planning, not answering individual PMs. no one here will want to be in my shoes.

in addition to the above, i suggest you have dirt oriented tires (some knobs on the front tire), such as tkc, dunlop 606, etc. it makes a big difference.

if you haven't done any dirt at all, that is tough to answer. a 400 mile loop in 2 days might be a little too much (lack of skill and fatigue will be a factor).

if you can buddy up with someone and take soda lake rd. (instead of elk horn - lots of ruts and off-cambers) to the rendevouz point, you should be ok.

though this ride is intended for intermediate riders, however, if some of you guys prefer a slower and more enjoyable pace, i will need someone to lead that group and give you the gps track, then we meet at specific places to make sure everyone is ok.

we will split the group into 2 or three. i prefer the fast group go ahead of the main group. we'll follow their dust clouds from a distance.

if it rains this weekend in carrizo and pozo, the riding will be a lot better (good traction and no dust) next weekend.

it is going to be cold at night....bring a good tent and zero degree rated sleeping bag.

bring your adventure pass...google it if you want details)

spark arrestor on all bikes.

LAST BUT FOREMOST....NO ROGUING AND NO HI-JACKING.
