It was a great ride indeed. On the first day (Saturday) I didn't even have time to set up my camera and take some videos. I was always trying to catch up the fast guys.
But Sunday was kick back riding day with Joel. Since he takes more pics than anyone else (414 pics this weekend where I had only 160 ) I had plenty of time to set up the camera, etc.
BTW Joel, I have my jump on both cameras. I'll post it in slow motion today.

Spotwalla

Hey Fudgy,

So what happened on the SpotWalla?

It posted my location when I got home. (NO i didn't hit OK, it was the last track location.)

It also seemed to do the same for you.. and no locations at all for the other two that signed in... ?????

What do you think?

I think it did what it said it would, but that's not what we thought it would do.

I think it did show where our last location was (mine just outside the privacy radius I set up in advance), but it was only live and was not a trail of breadcrumbs showing where we'd been. The value was probably only to those watching the map from home, or on the ride from a smart phone. I thought Cathy checked hers from Maricopa but that might have been my SPOT and not the spotwalla page.

As for where the other two registered SPOTs are, I don't know. Maybe they didn't configure theirs correctly or didn't have theirs on?

For me, the value would be at key points where you're expecting someone, such as MNCherryinCA and I showing up to Maricopa, or any of us at the end of the ride if someone's a no-show. It's a bit easier than trying to find each person's spot page, and some don't put it in their sigs, making it impossible to find.

I have a surveymonkey template for an event sign up sheet that includes a field where you can enter your SPOT link. That's not a bad idea either just in case we need to find someone.

Right now there are only three of us signed up for the DV n00bs spotwalla page.

I did look at your spot page, not the spotwalla. When I was watching KOTW, the spotwalla only showed each person's most recent track or ok. I don't know if spotwalla can be configured to show the breadcrumbs. The spotwalla adds an additional time delay over even what I experience with checking someone's SPOT page.

The spotwalla can be helpful to get an overview, but the individual pages are very helpful to be able to track.

Fyyff has an app on his phone where he stores all the shared pages he has, I thing that might be helpful. I have several people's shared pages bookmarked in my phone's browser. I think I like the app.

Doesn't get much simpler. It's also a no brainer to give out your address.
Your SPOT link is also on your user page.

Yes, as Cathy mentioned I got this app for iPhone (there is also one for Android) that you can add Spot links off your friends and see them on your phone. All information that you get from full website. Plus you can map all track points on the map together. I cant get more than 50 points at a time on internet browser.
It is called "Shared Pages". Of course you need cell phone reception or WiFi.

There is also an other one that I think is very useful. It is called WhatsApp Messenger. This one is basically a messenger that you can send free text, video, pics, contacts and best of all your location. You share your location and the other party knows exactly where you are on Google Maps. So it makes meeting much much easier.
Almost all foreigners use this app to communicate with their friends overseas because it is free and works on iPhone, Android and Blackberry. But not too many Americans knows about it.

I see several ADV and District 37 peeps on the user list.
Of course it's all useless if SPOT isn't on.

Spotwalla can be configured for crumbs, but with so many people on the screen, we don't do that. Delays are any where from 10-30 minutes.
