The thinking is that without the surrounding brush & trees, it would be way easier for new trails to be blazed off of the fire roads; which is exactly what they don't want.

Personally, I see no reason why the fire roads couldn't be opened, the "damage" from riding them is nada.

hi earl, that will be great if you can get the latest scoop. i missed nukes, great place to hang out and check out all kinds of cool bikes in the summer time. the ortega burger is great too.

Even if it rains this w/e, I may drive up and have breakfast any way, or give them a call and post the response.

Shouldn't be doing this as it is, and why areas get closed!

I still can't figure out why making a new trail is so bad. I mean really what's the big deal.

With the rain coming, mightbe your last chance for a dust free ride.

I hear you, but rules are rules. We need to follow them or face more closures.

This section of the CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) is what governs national forests.

Travel Management Rule (36 CFR 212, Subpart B, Designation of Roads, Trails, and Areas for Motor Vehicle Use)

Highlights of the Rule
  • The rule requires each national forest or ranger district to designate those roads, trails, and areas open to motor vehicles.
  • Designation will include class of vehicle and, if appropriate, time of year for motor vehicle use. A given route, for example, could be designated for use by motorcycles, ATVs, or street-legal vehicles.
  • Once designation is complete, the rule will prohibit motor vehicle use off the designated system or inconsistent with the designations.
  • Designation decisions will be made locally, with public input and in coordination with state, local, and tribal governments.
  • Designations will be shown on a motor vehicle use map. Use inconsistent with the designations will be prohibited.

Question Water crossing @ Afton Canyon

Has anyone done this lately? I heard it has been filled in and the water crossing is no more. I'm eyeballing the Mojave Road for a weekend turn around ride. Four years ago it was like this...

Crossed twice yesterday, only has 4" water. Swamp has been diverted around also. No more fun, only the sand hill left.

Hi John, I went for a ride up in the CNF a few days ago and the knee was good. More PT and ultimately more time so it can heal up properly.

Maybe we can put something together for this ride before it gets too warm.
