I have taken some great photos with my Pentax. I've also beat the shit out of it.
The biggest plus when I bought it was the lanyard attachment.
Most of my photos are shot on the move, so I want to be sure I don't lose the camera.
The Panasonic sounds good, but I think I may try the newer Pentax.
Film at 11:00.

Rugged Pocket Digital

There are lots of great professional reviewers online for rugged pocket cameras. But I suspect you want a quick answer, so....

All compacts have a lanyard loop.
You need a 'rugged' version of whatever you get or it will fail from environmental harshness on a dirtbike.

Canon always has the best image quality - there's hardly a reviewer that won't cop to that. They just have better optics and better color management.

You don't need a lot of zoom - it just makes it harder to steady the image.

The Panasonic TS series is always top rated.

Sony has their exclusive 'sweep panorama' which sold me on them. Only a consideration if you actually like panorama pix. No extra software required, the camera 'stitches' the images for you. Image quality is right up with the best of them.

Try out whatever you choose, consider trying to operate it with gloves on - less hassle.

And yes, Johngil takes some AWESOME pics. Joel does too. A 'zinger' is great for hanging it off your jacket for quick access and action shots.

Pros use a DSLR but for most riders it's about the ride and not about the shoot. If it's the latter, then the Canon Rebel has few peers. They make some great compact zooms as well, which are much too large for a pocket or lanyard.

javi, go to a store, belair camera or samy's. wear your riding gloves, hold the camera with left hand, find which one has easy buttons and controls. if you can turn the power on, press the shutter halfway, and click it, point the camera 360 above your head, if you're comfy, that will be your first choice.

of course, it has to be waterproof and dust proof. the quality of the photos will be compromised. i shoot 500 and lucky if i get 200 good ones. price is also a factor, especially if you're looking at cameras with fast lenses....low f-stop.

also, Rev Kiecker is a great photographer.

those two guys will know what you want, Javier. sounds like you already have a point and shoot, now you want something more professional, high definition type camera.
