[quote=sopascat]I couldn't wait to get out on my daughter's new(used) drz......but was busy in the morning, so I couldn't join you guys. got free about 1pm & decided to take the bike up the Crest to Newcomb's....
rained on me in a few spots......
I don't like to go off in the dirt when I'm on my own, so I just headed back down after a brief stop......
good thing I didn't head into the dirt, got most of the way down when the front end started getting wobbly

i could have come by and give you some assistance

Looks awesome you guys! Love to see those dark fresh tracks in the soil! I hope the rain is here for a while. Need to start invading the desert. It must be hell trying to stop your GS on its way down the side of a mountain when its wet! How far down did he go? It is nice to travel with a bucket brigade.

So Joel, who the heck are the Earthriders?
A bunch of people from Ventura who are led by a goober who even though he himself is a super noob, charges (yes, Money) people to ride with him. He's got some sort of website and claims to be some "zen-based-rider" and calls himself a "riding guide". They set up their rides from Ventura BMW.

Don't really understand why anyone would pay to do something that's free

He took a burm on the trail which shot him off the side of the mountain. His bike with him on it went down about 200ft. No injuries though. Lucky there were some Jeepers with a tow strap. It took about 10 of us to get it back to the top in the wet rain. It was nice GS until it went down the side. Probably about $500 in damage.

Laine (Earthriders) is a great guy, knows how to ride, and enjoys teaching other people how to enjoy our sport!!! Let's not flame him for trying to make a buck helping others get out on ADVenture rides.. He spends a hell of a lot of time putting organized rides together. Yes, a lot of us have ridden since birth, but many people have come to motorcycling later in life and can afford to be pampered... I took up hockey at 40 and had to have a bit of help getting an understanding of playing the game. That can cost a few bucks, no big deal!

Agree on many of your points.

However, on more than one occasion in the past, Laine was more than off-putting and borderline rude to myself and others that have attempted to ride along with his group.........before he started Earthriders.

The need to "make a buck" can change one's attitude.

I understand. In doctor's we call it "bedside manner", in pilot's "it's get home itis". Hell, even wives say "Why don't you treat me like you treat your customers?" I guess we can chalk it up to human nature!

Just think how rich Joel would be if he got $25 a head for every ride he organized in the last year.

mike............"$25 a head"......that's cheap by sunset blvd standard ...

seriously....the money you guys save...buy yourself a spare tube, pump, tools, clutch lever, repair kit...anything that will save your arse when you breakdown on the trail.

btw..kragen has the slime 12v small compressor on sale this week for $9, same one i've been using for 6 months. if you need to wire a quick disconnect to your bike, i can help you too.
