45 miles and, no, the TE450 does not like the pavement. This is my barely street legal dirtbike and I avoid the pavement whenever possible :

I've never been out there. Would you say that is mostly fireroad? Is there good single track? How much asphalt? How many miles round trip? Just curious - i am up for everything!

Unfortunately, I wont know if i am working Sat until thurs or fri...so i won't be making any definite plans until then.
Cleghorn to the 138 is easy fireroad but I take all of the hard stuff that parallels the road up on the ridges. The hard stuff intersects with the easy road so it's easy for groups to stay together: small bikes up on the ridges, bigger bikes on the road and they can try some of the ridge stuff if they like.

138 to Silverwood Lake is about 10 miles of pavement.

Silverwood to Pinacles is like Cleghorn: your choice of easy or hard, with many intersections between the two. If you're feeling froggy we can take 1w17x (I think that's the name). Triple black diamond : that starts just outside the staging area and intersects again with main fireroad about 2/3 in.

From Pinacles to the T6 bridge I take...I forget the trail numbers but it's fun roller coaster stuff. Relatively slow speed, technical riding. Climbing out of the creek at T6 is another challenging section with several steps, unless you know the right lines. At Crab Flats a choice between returning the same or similar way, or taking pavement, or doing the Malcolm Smith Trail, the hardest trail out there.

Anyway, I know the area very well and we can amend/make the plan up as we go based on who and what abilities/bikes show up.

I'm up for doing this again after Thanksgiving, per Sito's suggestion, and would prefer a Sunday if it's all the same. As you (Longerday) ride with these guys a lot on the SCD, you can give them your perspective on this stuff after the ride.

Anyway, this ride has a ton of variety and options to challenge yourself, or bail/skip some hard stuff by dropping down onto the fireroads.

once you're up there at nr, go down on ac and make a right on chilao. i don't have a trail map, so you will need to explore the area and find that trail. all i remember is from ac, you have to make 3 right turns and a left to pacifico. good luck.

i have a gpx track but my laptop crashed 2 weeks ago.

Oh! I know where that's at! (well, Chilao anyway) Yeah, I haven't gone thru there yet but I do remember seeing the sign - something about it going to Santa Clarita Divide I believe? Been wanting to check that out! :-)

As much as I would love one - it's useless to me... stupid GPS I'm using doesn't import/export. Something for my Xmas/Bday wishlist. :-)

Thanks!

There are a few ways to get to Pacifico, but the way most of us get there from NR is down the Crest 1/4 mile to Chilao Rd. (visitor's center)

http://tinyurl.com/6g92jv

There is a small section of dirt where the map won't let me continue but you get the idea.

Thanks for the great map. I am thinking I can squeak a ride in this week to beat the 15th deadline. OR if its still open on the 15th possibly Saturday??
If anyone is interested in meeting up at the Shell in La Canada or NR let me know.

Well, ended up not going - stayed home playing with my nephews.
Hopefully I can explore that trail before it closes.
Thanks for the map route, is it a normal fire road all the way?
Why does it close, BTW?

charles, i'm out this week and weekend...my right shoulder is still sore from a fall!

i have been nursing that shoulder for 3 months and the pain is almost gone until i hit sand in dv then fell off the bike...good thing it was a slow speed get off...

hope you guys still get one more ride through pacifico...it was a good route and we had so much fun...really hate to see that route closed.

the closure is seasonal, snow and mud...not sure if there some environmental or ecological reasons, but come MAY 15th we'll be riding that section again....

I am up for either Cajon area or Angeles Crest (If they don't make me work SAT!!!!) but I did forget that Pacifico closes this weekend!

Might be worth it to do one last hurrah to Newcombs before its gone for 6 months!

Who is up for what?

TwoWheels - are you going to Cajon regardless?
