Quick question - I'm doing a two day ride around Los Padres this weekend. I'm leaving late tonight from LA so campsites may be full up, anybody know a good place to pull off the side of the road where I won't be seen so I can get some shuteye? I'd be out by sunrise. People do that here or too many local wierdos?

Street riding with tame dirt, but if anybody wants in last minute let me know, plan is to be back in LA by Sunday night.

Try hungry valley svra. You can ride pavement all the way back to Lockwood creek.

You should have no problem getting a site at camp Chuchupate and all you need is an adventure pass. I5 to Frazier park to Lockwood valley rd about a mile to the ranger station on the left, continue thru the station a couple miles to the camp. Good maps availible at the ranger station. Good store and pizza at the corner of Frazier and Lockwood. Dirt roads run all over Frazier mountain, just continue past the camp. ENJOY!

tt, thanks for the input.

the motoz rep said the same thing. a lot better than the 606 on dirt but expect less on the pavement.

hahaha.....that's what i am hoping. have been using the 606 for 6 years on all my bikes and hopefully a better one comes along.

folks. the truth is there is no bad tire (think liability and greedy lawyers). tires are designed for a specific application and market. often times when a tire fails someone's expectation, it wasn't the tire's fault but the rider for putting the wrong tire. there's no 1 tire that will do it all. all dual sport tires (dot rated) are made to compromise - marginal dirt performance and relatively safe road handling. never expect it will perform to be very good at both scenarios because it won't.

if you're trucking and just doing mostly dirt, you're in luck. there are a lot of excellent pure dirt tires out there.

i ride lots of pavements to get to dirt. for instance from my house to st. george ut and down south into baja. the 606 never disappointed me and got me back with good amount of thread left.

the best part, if i can't get a grin on the dirt, the twisties will......

tire discussion is good. we should have a tire thread here in the west. what's good in the northeast or midwest or elsewhere may not be applicable for the west.

keep the rubber side down and burn the chicken strips.......

hungry val and chuchupate are good.

hungry valley is big and you will find camping space. prepare to pay the entrance fee and they will poke your bike. make sure you have working usfs approved spark arrestor.

chuchupate is small compared to hungry val. but the higher elevation makes it a lot cooler, also lots of trees and shade.

no guarantee, but i feel that the farther i get away from the city the safer it is.

+1 on Chuchupate. Nice place to camp. Although we've seen the locals come up and have a rave party while the rangers are off duty...by 8am they were gone.

The singletrack up there is for litebikes though. Just FYI.
