FROM L.A. TIMES (thanks rich for the link)....http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/l...523-story.html

All roads closed since the 2009 Station fire will reopen Saturday in Angeles National Forest.

The reopening provides about 46,000 acres of available space for hiking, camping and picnicking, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The areas were closed due to safety concerns and to allow time for new vegetation to take hold since the fire charred about 161,000 acres, according to a report in the La Canada Valley Sun.

“We have worked very hard to get these areas reforested and restored since the Station Fire," forest supervisor Tom Contreras said in a statement. "Now people can enjoy them just like they do the rest of the forest."

Some areas will still remain closed for continued work and public safety reasons, including the Lower Gabrielino Trail below Bear Canyon Trail, Barley Flats Trail, Colby Trail, Ken Burton Trail, Millard Water Fall User Trail, Santa Clara Divide Road, Messenger Flats Campground, Lightning Point Campground and Big Buck Campground.

Officials also warned that the fire danger level remains “very high." Open wood and charcoal fires are permitted only at campgrounds and picnic areas where steel fire rings and grills are provided.

Drivers should remain on designated forest roads and never park on dry brush or grass, to avoid risk of starting a fire.

Met some FS personnel a few days ago; I was told SCD will remain closed for a long time because lots of dead trees and will take lots work. I asked if civilian volunteers can help, and the response was "yes", but the FS have to train these people first.

so, i'm IN, anyone else?

I'm in as long as the training days are after work or on weekends that I don't have my son.

I read about this the day they reopened it. But I got depressed when it said SCD will remain closed and decided not to spread the bad news.

Also in if training is on a day off.

I did a pretty big ride today, hitting many of the heavy hitter dirt road / pavement intersections. Everything is closed. SCD, Indian Canyon, Lynx, Tule Ridge, every thing.

thanks for the response.

for now, we need 4 - 6 solid commitments. 1 weekend/month. if allowed, we could just camp there. it is essential we have a core group.

the 50/50s can fill in later or do alternate weekends or when opportunities arise.

we have to bring our own meals, transport and tools.

this week, i will contact the f.s. that we have @ 6 volunteers and get more info.
