I guess I'll have to wait 'till it comes out in digital format.

The Penton family were quite the riders. The other fellow that really stands out on ISDT was Malcolm Smith. I can't remember how many times he won his class, but it was several. He was an amazing rider.

Also interesting that the Penton models were named after racing events, like the ISDT 125 and the Jackpiner 175. There was the "Jackpiner Enduro" in either Michigan or Ohio, forget which one. There was the Berkshire 100 and I think that was the original, not sure where that came from - maybe they covered that in the movie.

There was a book published in 2000 and for all I know it prompted the movie. If you have further interest it might be worth trying to locate. Amazon has it but it must be out of print because the paperback is $70 - ouch! http://www.amazon.com/John-Penton-Of...ds=john+penton

My Jackpiner 175 restored about year 2000. Notice it actually has the KTM logo on the side cases. What's interesting is it's still the same logo used today, and this was from 1974. IIRC it had a 6spd gearbox, 21 and 18 inch wheels, Cerriani forks, and weighed about 235lbs. Specs not so far removed from a modern day enduro!

I don't like to clutter this thread with for sale stuff, but I wanted to pass this deal by my fellow LA area inmates....if they fit you, these are top notch boots for a more reasonable price.

santa clara divide forest road maintenance

also known as 3N17, this road is perfect for big bikes and not far from our homes. it's our backyard, angeles national forest.

currently will remain closed indefinitely.

there's a report about 1200 trees have to be removed, not an easy task for a bunch of volunteers.

the forest service will be hiring contractors to do the work @ 2 years.

we can help and get through the closed gates. we have 4 volunteers who are certified sawyers, however, they're still waiting for their ID cards in the mail.

we need another "B" sawyer. if you are one, please come and join us.

generally, a B sawyer can cut and fall a standing tree up to a certain diameter. C sawyer is limited to cutting trees on the ground and limbing.

awesome ride report! congrats for the great accomplishment and living our dreams.

meat and dan

i will see you there on saturday. don't park your bike next to mine, my 640 has more scratches and characters that people will think it was the bike that was ridden all the way to the end of south america.....

After 8 months of riding 20,000 miles through 14 countries from California to Argentina it's time to kick back and have an American BBQ. The Ride Report conclusion can wait a little longer

Throughout this trip I've met so many local riders in the Orange County/LA area who supported me just by leaving a comment saying hello. Others donated to the charity. Some of you may just be hearing about my trip now. But you're all welcome to the BBQ this weekend.

Jump on your bike and ride down to Costa Mesa for a good afternoon. I'll be grilling up burgers and sausages and sharing photos and videos of my trip on a 100" big screen. I'll have my G650 X Challenge (though it needs some tlc) and all my gear for those interested as well.

What to Bring: I'll provide all the food. Burgers, Sausages, snacks, and soda. (please let me know if you're a veggie in the comments!)
There's two ways you could contribute: make a donation that will go to the charity I've been supporting on my trip (international justice mission) or you can bring beer if you'd like. Please Drink Responsibly If you're Driving or Riding. I could use some help on the grill if there are any volunteers

When: This Saturday July 26th 12:30-5pm

Where: Roadtrip Nation HQ 853 W. 17th St Costa Mesa, California 92627 (the driveway entrance is on Babcock St)

Please post a reply or send a message if you're coming!

PLEASE RSVP BY FRIDAY with how many are coming

WOW. What a story. I'll be working right around the corner from your HQ on Saturday. I can stop by to say hi.
Congrats on your achievement. If I can convince my Argentinian wife, maybe we can do this trip two up one day as well.
