No offense intended. I have a 1200. I'd ride the dakar in a heartbeat if I had it.

Cheers!

RichKDamn. I'm totally jealous! Makes me wish I got a KTM instead of the Beemer. Could a 525 do this trip?

Rich

hi rich, long time you've been quiet....

i will not take the 525 neither the 450 on a 500 mile ride. my odo log is 475 miles. first the subframe may break to handle 40 lbs of camping equipment, food, water, and of course beer. lots and lots of whoops!

yes 2wheelsgood made it, but it wasn't easy. on empty highways and wide open dirt roads the FFs were blasting at 85 mph for an extended period of time. if you don't have any extra load, you may do it on the 525.

the best bike for this is the xr650, 640, 650xc, bmw dakar, and other big thumpers with excellent and tuned suspension.

but knowing you, i believe you can do it on your gs1200. haven't seen anyone else as good as you are on a pig.
Hey there! I've been lurking and working. Just commuting on the 1200 and riding the KTM in the dirt a little. Thanks for the vote of confidence, as well as the compliment, but I think I'm gonna do the 525. She's put up with a lot and it feels like she's got it in her. I got her new, and have been good to her. She's an '04 with a plate, and lot's of multiday rides. I change the oil often, change filters on multiday rides, and adjust the valves accordingly. Javi has been doing my suspension for a couple of years now too. I should add to that she's an EXC so I have the wide ratio tranny. She's been 104 mph (prolly won't pull that anymore). That said, let's quit talking about it, I don't want to jinx the f'n bike or ride.

20 lbs huh? I'm gonna need to see a detailed list for that.

Happy New Year!!
Rich
