ok, though i will be elsewhere this sat, let's get this ride going.

MEET: 7-11 off Osborne (regular meet up place)
TIME: 8:00 am

This will be a mellow ride; all the FFs will be in Big Bear, so no one will be roosting your face and no one to catch up.

Ride on your own pace. Bring spare parts for your bikes that will most likely break if you drop it.

Lunch at Hidden Springs after the ride!...

WHO'S IN???

I remember a small pile of rocks/dirt, covering maybe a quarter of the trail about a third of the way to the water crossing on BPL. (Bureau of Parks and Land) Not memorable tho.

I think I'm in. New Alpinestars pressure suit to break in. Just one stupid noob question - What the hell do I wear over it? Take the armor out of my Joe Rocket street jacket?

Someone stay close to me. I have a habit of getting trapped under my bike.

i don't wear anything over mine, other than my jacket on cold days, but when it warms up, i just wear the pressure suit with a t shirt and polypropolene shirt under that.
some guys wear MX jerseys over their pressure suit.

but yes, take out your armor of your riding jacket to free up room and no need to double up on armor.

I wore my riding jacket over mine last time as it was cold enough - with the extra armor and all... I felt so safe!

Once it got too hot, I just wore the suit with nothing over it. I'm not happy with the suit tho, don't think it was made for people with a gut - kidney belt tends to ride down my stomach while the rest of it rides up.

Hey, you're faster than me - so if anything I'll eventually find you.

BTW, anyone use FRS/GMRS while offroading?

yeah, I remember something similar, looked like someone plowed it to a side a bit? It wasn't a problem. It's the road turning to all rocks further down that made things interesting.

Damn, man, sucks about the fractured shoulder. :-(

Man, I've been wanting to do that ride!
But my friends are too lame to go out that far!
Been thinking of doing it by myself... but my road bike is currently parked pending an expensive service interval (no job, no money, no bike).
And just getting out to Silverwood Lake on the XT is more than a ride for me, yet alone a ride ontop of that.

Hopefully something happens between now and then and I could maybe join you? (I'm no knee dragger, but I enjoy the company).

uhhh... I don't know... who's organizing/leading this one anyway?

And, no - don't you dare look at me! I *WILL* get us lost! Especially that I don't have a working GPS! I swear I'll just do SCD and Lynx with no other trails, as those are the only ones I kinda, sorta remember.

My bike does around 120 Miles on a full tank, it takes maybe 15 miles(?) on pavement to get to SCD. I try to carry an extra gallon of gas. The rides I've been on have been below 100 miles, and you can always escape at a rest point, which are usually near a road that eventually leads to fuel. Cut out at about 30 miles before you run out, or you may get stuck.

My recommendation is always gas up - even if you don't think you need to, just before you arrive at the meetup point.

So where is this Osborne meet up spot? I might be able to make it. What sort of spare parts would you recommend bringing?

That sucks man,
I know what you mean - I can't even sit on a bike like that - yet alone even think of riding one! I don't know how you guys do it! My friend just got a 2000 R1, and immediately started complaining, after riding a 250 Ninja for a few years.

And hey, you say that as if a 'strom is a bad thing! Man, I've been wanting that bike for over a year! Kinda kicking myself I didn't get one when I was working.

Well, if you're doing it on the 650, I might think about taking the 225... altho you've seen how slow I am on it on dirt - not much faster on pavement ok, a little faster, especially on turns - I'm not scared to death of the turns on pavement as I am on dirt.

spare parts?
There are many schools, rules and opinions on this I''m sure.. but, a spare front tube along with valve stem remover, hand pump and wrench that fits the axle nuts, and oh yeah.. a pair or tire spoons and maybe a spare clutch lever.. (this list is getting longer) and really.. who needs brakes?
Water for yourself too!

I hope to join you all.. What Time?

We meet across the street from the 7-11 there.
As far as parts... I don't know... I would imagine a shift lever? Maybe other things that you know might break if your bike hits the ground? Joel, ideas?

I hope someone that knows how to repair a tube comes along, cuz I fail at that. :-P
