Funny thing happened when I went from an XR to an EXC... UPS and FedEX stopped coming to my house every week. With the XR, I was always trying to get a little something more out of it (power, suspension, etc.). The EXC has it all, nothing more required.

Joel was close with $2k.

It all depends on what you expect out of your ride.

When I bought my xr4 new 5k otd - 525exc 8.5 otd. I have added about 1.5k in frakles in the first 6 months and now the UPS/FedX guy doesn't show up anymore nor do I have to fix it other then lube and go, parts are reasonable and here in 2 days if needed verus 2 wks min w/exc $$$$.

My bike was bought new in 03 and has yet to need a single replacement part other then chains/sprockets and tires, I am pushing about 12/15k in milage mostly all dirt.

The turth be told I really wanted the orange ride but $$$ did the talking and I have yet to be able to out ride the xr though I am always trying.

I am not bagging the KTM just stating an opinion as a pleased red rider with an couple of grand left in my pocket that has gone toward lots of weekends riding.

Joel
If you do decide to sell the xr please let me know as I would seriously take your stash of electric start mods that you have acummulated.

I like all this talk about the SE being a young man's bike... I must still be young.

1000 miles on the SE last weekend... twisties, slab, fire roads, trails... it does it all.

Sell the GS, you will never look back.

The Drop Test

Decisions, decisions, decisions..

Joel, whatever bike you finally choose..

Go to that bike's dealer then lay the bike on its side..

If you can pick it up by yourself..

Then you should buy it!

P.S. I know of a CA Plated WR450 for sale @ $4800 o.b.o.

The XR needed all that ('cept the fan) and more.
But, really, there's no argument here... the price, maintenance, performance... each with it's good/bad points... very different bikes
I guess you could say that they are "apples and oranges"

Awesome! Looks like I'm going, and representing ADV, will be on the XT!
Just wish I had an ADV Sticker. heh

Anyone else want to go with me? I'll be leaving North Hollywood at 7:30 AM. I'll be at Carl's Jr at 7:00 AM on Magnolia & Vineland, and MIGHT have some Scooters and Motorcycles following me down there. There is a slight chance I'll be down surface streets down.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 9:45 a.m. The police-escorted ride starts at 10 a.m. sharp, rain or shine!

It's a slow road ride thru beautiful Rancho Palos Verdes, $35 donation for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

All sorts of bikes there, seemed a lot friendlier than the Love Ride, they welcome all bikes, saw tons of Dual Sports last year.

I'm trying to come up with the money to go (yeah, pathetic, huh? But looks like I might have some work coming up soon).

If anyone's going and want to meet up (and if I can raise the $35 to go), PM me. :-)
