Hey Charlie
The 690's got power to spare it's going to take a few ride's to learn
how to use the motor. On a fire road it's the shit.
I'm still mess'in with the gearing the bike needs a lower first gear.
There's not a magic one out there they all get old and tired.
I'm sure it will be for sale at some point...Got'a have the new mouse trap

xr400....this bike will outlast all the EXCs and other small bikes out there. simple and cheap. parts everywhere. will make a good standby while my EXC is out of commission.

Joel, you got that right. Consider finishing the electric start project like I did mine. There is beauty in simplicity, and the XRs are no exception. Do more with less! That's what I tell myself whenever I ride my tractor-like, easy to ride venerable XR250r.

Ok. So me and Tom (Ti-D-Bowl) did the Cal Poly Penguins ride last Sunday and had a blast. Here are some video clips of the ride. Tom is on the xr400 with the "vintage" moto III helmet. The first one here is getting out of town and into the hills.

And this last one is entering the first of the private ranches. The Penguins put on a great ride, only issue was that the roll charts were cut a little wonky and ripped in half 10 minutes into the ride. But the route was marked so well we really didn't need it. The only idiot we came across was a guy on a harley with his wife riding "ballast", seemed he wanted to give Tom a run for his money on the twisty slab I was just waitin' for the carnage.
