I do not have plating experience, but there are DMV service agents around the area that know which door of the DMV to use. It may be helpful to call or stop by 1 or 2 and see if the know the way. As TT said, it is harder and there is a model year cut-off, but this is all I know. Good luck.

PM ME?

I am thinking of getting a smaller #2 bike...wondering if i should buy plated or nonplated and plate it...hahah

I know there is lots of advice and ideas and threads out there covering the spectrum of facts on DMV nonsense...

but i figured a few of you local SOCAL guys ride xr400s and have been down the road... so i thought i'd go right to a local source that rides in my backyard!
Buy one that is already plated and make sure it was originally plated before Jan 2004. It will be grandfathered and there will be no future worries of losing your plate. Bike had to be 2003 or older and green sticker, all others the DMV may someday revoke (maybe, who really knows???). Just my advice. If you're in no hurry you should be able to find a deal, just jump on the sale fast as the good deals here in so cal go fast with a legal plate.

If you find the loop hole let me know as I would like to plate an 06 crf150f w/button

I took my bike practical three weeks ago (F&$#*g hard as sh!t BTW!) and asked the dmv agent in Pasadena about it and he couldn't figure out what i was trying to say...

Me: "What is the procedure to plate a 2000 Honda XR400 motorcycle?"
DMV: "I don't know what XR honda is, son."
Me: "It is an offroad Motorcycle."
DMV: "I don't know what you are asking."
Me: "How do i go about getting it plated?"
DMV: "You'll have to make an appointment..."

Sounds like it's just a crapshoot and a major hassle....

Maybe i will just get something like....

Those deals are gone. I tried looking for one. Local dealer had a 08 525 RS with 400 miles and they were asking $7000. I offered $6250 OTD and they said no. I believe they sold it to someone new and could not get them financed. Nice bike though.

brian, once you find someone who could do it, the sopas riders for sure are interested too..... , look at the good side....no broken signal lights and side mirrors.....

in 08, i bought this 03 with 500 miles for $4k. it came with almost brand new tires, scotts damper and triple tree, ims tank, aftermarket pegs, frame, disc fork protectors, and a few goodies....AND IT DOESN"T HAVE AN ELECTRIC STARTER....

it's a fun and low maintenance bike...i doubt if there's another bike out there that will survive all the crashes i went trough......
