the way i look at it, when riding off-road, if you can't pick up your OWN bike, don't ride it off-road.
this goes for BMW GS's, KTM Adv 950, even KLR's.

Totally agree, but I would extend it. I could pick up my Dakar on level ground with a decent footing without much struggle.

But I found it much more difficult to pick up in the bushes a couple times. Also, once I dropped it, I got tired rapidly and started dropping it more and more. I could not pick up the Dakar 5 times in the heat when I was tired.

So you need to be able to pick up your bike a few times, not just barely be able to pick it up in a parking lot.

if yr bike is on the ground with the seat downhill, drag it around so the tires are downhill, then you have less distance (and angle) to pick it up.
