things to consider

I was on that ride also waitin at the road for 20 minutes and scavanged some gas and met up back with the crew still waitin. The location 10 minutes
from the 15 and 20 from slash x with rv's everywhere, kinda hard to get lost
even with being the 1st time there for some.Much different situation had we been in the deep desert. We wouldn't have ever gotten split up in the 1st place in no mansland.I ve been on many rides with most of these guys and they are a great bunch, from extra tubes to tools to beers its all there. Will welcome a ride anytime with the la weekend crew

hi billy, you're the only rider that was lost by the l.a. weekend riders and still you have lots of good things to say....love you man....

I actually stopped going last year and just watch them on Speed or Fox now, I got tired of the parking mess, crowds, etc. If you can ride there, there's usually a dedicated bike parking section close to an entrance and you can split the traffic and get in and out much faster.

The sights are always great at SX races, and the racing is intense! Wait until you see Stewart ride/fly! That young man is amazing!
thanks to johngil....me and my gf are excited to go.

Saturday morning we ended up with 8 guys in Mojave for some great riding on a perfect day.

tbarstow picked up me and my bike on his way out.

We met up with Riddler990, Vermon, sito, rruugger, Earl999 and rsks at Mike's Roadhouse. We were hoping for a Yzlvr to show up and show us around but none showed. Nowwhat!?

Since no one knew the area that well we decided to just play it by ear. So we drove to California City and geared up.

We soon found our way out of the desert floor and up our first hill climb. Let it be known that the guys leading the ride first checked with everyone to see if they were ok with this hill. We all were.

Unfortunately, when we agreed to go up, we weren't able to see what we would have to come down. Ends up, you really couldn't even see until you were actually making your descent. This is tbarstow just before heading down. He made it down most of the way only to hit a deep rut which tossed him into a pile of rocks.

A few of the guys rushed up to help him out. He was laying there for quite a while in a great deal of pain before he finally got up. Luckily he didn't hit his head hard or break anything, but as you've seen, he did get some pretty good bruises. Eventually, everyone was finally at the bottom.

We decided to stick to the flats for a while and riding behind tbarstow, I could tell he was still in some serious pain. At one point the ground just kind of dropped out from below us. This is part of Vermon's reenactment of the events that followed.

Hey, we're in the middle of the desert. Where did everyone go?

While making our way indirectly to Randsburg, we stopped for a look around and so Sito could do some trail sign maintenance.

Earl999, rsks and Vermon striking a pose.

After a registration checkpoint, we made it into Randsburg proper. Riddler990, rruugger and Vermon taking a look around.

tbarstow still showing his pain and rsks.

This is actually pretty empty for the White House Saloon parking lot on a New Years weekend.

Earl999

So we decided to save an hour of daylight by riding over the hill to the gas station to grab some snacks in lieu of lunch in Randsburg. This is where tbarstow finally took a good look at his wound and realized it was worse than we had all thought. We made an effort to clean and dress the wound, but I think the pain motivated him to call it quits for the day. Earl999 and rsks volunteered to escort him back to the trucks.

The rest of us continued riding and soon enough found ourselves atop some more hills.

This climb had a little step up but I wasn't nearly as worried about that as I was about what was likely to be on the other side.

My suspicions about the other side were correct. It was a little outside my comfort level, to say the least. I'm actually not sure how I survived it but I am glad I spent a little extra money to get a Husky and then had the suspension done. I kind of just held on really tight and let the bike deal with it. I certainly was in no position to stop and take pictures.

When we got moving again, rruugger realized he had a flat tire.

Sito just can't help it. He's compelled to fix flats.

As the sun was sinking quickly and everyone was pretty tired, we decided to take the low flat roads back to the trucks. We got back just as the sun was setting.

We loaded up then hit a local mexican restaurant for dinner and a drink. Over dinner we talked about how fortunate we all are to have such a great group of responsible, conscientious riders to ride with and how lucky we are to get to ride so often and on such varied terrain. It may have just been the drinks talking, but I think we meant it.

It was a long day, but after all was said and done, the riding, as always, made it all well worth it.

looks like fun

i was out a few weekends ago at Cal City and had a nice ride except we got started late and the sun was setting while were still in Randsburg. the ride back along the dirt road was cold and i wasn't wearing a jacket. made it back safe and stopped at a burger place for a well deserved burger and fries. i am new to ADV and i am still trying to figure out where to look for the next upcoming ride.

i hope to meet up with you and ride. i just put a smaller front sprocket on, a G2 throttle cam system and looking forward to trying them out.

wow...that's a lot of bikes, and in spite of that, the desert looks empty in your other pics.
