Speaking of Sandblast, I believe some of you (Jason?) know Mike Warren of Southern Pines, NC. He competed ~2 years ago in the Sandblast on a BMW HP2. Mike goes by Mr. Magoo here and Rubberdown on a couple of other boards. He was pretty seriously injured while riding over the weekend and is in the ICU in Florence, SC. Evidently high-sided while riding off-road and was flung into a metal pole. Collar bone broken in 3 places, 9 cracked ribs, and a bruised lung.

One of his friends posted about it over at Badweb (Buell forum):

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buel...tml?1226367117

I may ride up to see him this weekend if he's taking visitors by then.

I understand Mike got out of the ICU late Wednesday and has been able to get up and around a little. I'm sure he's one hurtin' dude though.

Crap...

Oh man, that sucks. I was up at the Performance Center about a month ago and saw Mike. We were gonna do some riding.

Do you know if he was on his HP? If there is one bike that is really capable of highsiding you into oblivion, on or off road, it's the HP.

Best Wishes and a speedy recovery to Mike.

Cheers,

Jason

Jason, yep, he was on the HP2. I had just seen him 3 weeks ago at Carolina Motorsports Park at Kershaw, SC. The good news is he's out of the hospital and home tonight. He just posted this to Badweb:

"HOME! Thanks all for the good thoughts and wishes! I'm a little broken but o.k.

Was doing some high speed pre-running of an upcoming off/road sand competition rally and did not realize I had ventured off the route. Came blasting around a deep sand sweeper, on nice new soft terrain knobbies, with 100 hp blasting a roost to the rear when I realized the trail ended with a heavy iron gate with tall near-verticle dirtmounds on either side. No outs. Apparently intended to exit the sand wash and broadside the bike into the dirt to the left of the gate. I almost made it, but got tossed early and snagged the gate upright with my right shoulder, ribs and hip. Bike ended up where I intended. SmackEd my head hard enough along the way to ruin my Arai XD.

My buddy Bill Conger saved my life by stabilizing me and getting assistance.

I came to as they were loading me into the chopper. We lifted off and had to abort three minutes later when the chopper malfunctioned. I go a nice bumpy 50 minute ride to the ER strapped to a hard backboard, with bunch of fractures... fun!

So I'll heal fix some shit on the HP2 and have at again... a little wiser.

Thanks folks "

Very glad to hear he's doing better.

I'm thinking I might ride to Atlanta Friday to see the Georgia Aquarium. I'm a little leery of the weather but does anybody have route suggestions?

Micro Ride report

Friday;
Early start up 78 towards Augusta.
Cold.
Many police, scenery nice.
Hop on I20 near Augusta Scenery blah, Make tracks.
Atlanta traffic sucks.
Aquarium nice but commercial, crowds large, fish cool, claustrophobia strikes I split.
Atlanta traffic still sucks.
Leave out on I20.
Think about pushing on home, starts to sprinkle, riding at night in rain = not this cowboy. Super 8 in Madison. Snore.
Full time rain in morning. Put on full regalia, Wall's overalls, sweat pants, polypro undies, Frogg Tog rainpants, fleece sweater, Riding Jacket, Motoboss rain jacket. I can barely move but I'm snug.
New waterproof riding glove aren't. !#&*@.
Decide against interstate. Take 278 back.
Still raining but I'm warm and pretty dry. Haven't figured out rain on visor bit maybe more rain-x? , also have problem foggin up unless I crack the visor which allows some rain in.
I am paranoid about losing traction so I keep my speed near the speed limit.
Traffic is light, the route is pleasant if soggy.
Still raining as I miss the turn off to 78. End up in Allendale.
Rain tapers off and I get back on track.
On and off drizzles. F---ing gloves still wet.
Home again, home again, jiggety jig.

The end.
