*clock work

Well, I was supposed to ride and meet on the Bronx...was running late and showed up at 1245....anyways, did a solo and bike no longer having any issues. found the green fluid to be oil on air filter..wiped, clean, and no more leaking. I do now realize why people tow their bikes to the Bronx. The KTM is not a dual-sport, but a street legal dirt bike. It took me 42 miles from Shalimar through the range to the Bronx and took me one hour. I had a long day of riding then the nephew wanted to go out and ride his DRZ.. Anyways, I will be looking at picking up a cheap "beater" 4 cylnd. pick-up for such occasions. Unfortunately the Soob can only do so much, but is a blast to drive. ---I guess I may catch you guys some other time.

KTM owners...does anyone know of the differences in frame of the KTM between the years. I am curious for the fact I am looking at GPR steering stabilizers and they do not have it updated for the years...may have to call the company for fits, but looking for input reguardless.

Go to KTMtalk.com...lots of information on there about frame changes. There is actually an entire thread devoted to yearly updates, down to each bolt that changed.

Down2Ride,

Congrats on your new ride. I live in FT Walton near Mary Ester cut off. We need to ride sometime and I can show you some pretty good stuff starting at Timberlake area.

GPR - The mounting for the new 5hunny is the same as for the 2008 thru 20011 excs.

I moved mine from the 2008 530 to the 500 with out problems.
WARNING - Be very careful and check the clearance between the mounting colar and the wiring for the odo etc. Make SURE you have clearance before moving the handle bars and slicing off your wires!!!

The bike stock has problems with running lean from factory. Does yours pop of decell? Best way to cure is to remove a Smog devices and canister. Its about a 15minute process. You may even have the right plugs in you took kit from factory... check that and see.

You can go online to see procedure. Or bring it over one day and we can strip off.

The final fix for me was install of JDTuner with 500 settings ($200 ouch!). If you think you bike is stong now wait until you do these mods.

There are options to this online. Check the 2012 ktm 500 exc thread for lots of info.... use search since this is a hugh thread.

You bike sould not leak anywhere. Sounds like you may have fixed those problems.

This bike is step up with soft suspension. Depending on weight and agressive riding style you may need stiffer springs and adjustments. This can come later once you get use to the bike. I would play with clickers until you get use to the bike before changing springs. I did NOT do that on mine and it seems ok. But then I am an old man and not very fast...

You are correct in that the 500 is NOT a street bike. It can be but it aint is stock trim. Most of us truck to ride spots. Save knobbies too.

Hit me up if you have any questions and I will try and answer...

Look forward to riding with you.

Yes, I too know about the wiring harness hitting the yoke for the stabilizer. I know that the under the bar type that I purchased came with a pair of spacers and longer bolts that are to be used to move the harness/odometer assy away from the bars to ensure it does not rub....I bought the GPR below the bars type that is sold by KTM world and it works great.

The green fluid in your air box is more than likely just filter oil that has dripped from the filter, they get hot in the crates in the truck and drips down in to the air box no harm they are usually dry from the factory or your dealer prepped and over oiled it.

Rotorhead and I will be probably be going to Chipley this Sunday to ride if anyone wants to join us. It's only 30 mins past the Crestview exit and you don't need a plate to ride there either. Lots of ST too. That'll prob be my last day riding here in the Panhandle till I return in October for a month of training in Mobile.

You know its been a blast riding with you. Always raising the level of the FastBurns...if this is gonna be your last ride I may come an join you.

You are not the first nor the last of our fine friends here on PAR who are forced to move on and out of our sphere ... at least for awhile.

God Bless you and keep you save.

Great times Rick! I thought ADR would be funner this time because I would know what to expect. Ha! Oh well. I would love to get a plated ride and join in. Sold my street bike to pay the unbelievable medical bills racked up last year. I'm so glad our wonderful commander-in-chump decided to help out with medical insurance! Business isn't great, but not bad either. Hows the sailing going?

It's $20 to ride and plenty of good trails.

Hope to see you there.
