Hey folks its been a long time! looking to get back to riding in the next couple weeks. Looking at selling the 990 and downsizing to a 690 or 690 duke, anyone have any thoughts on how either would on short commutes of about 40 mile round trip to and from work on 85?

Thanks Vic! Would be all over it Sunday but I got another commitment...I did dust off the 530 this morning so its good to go. I have realized the 990 will never be used the way it should be, just looking for something comfortable for commuting back and forth to work.

I hear ya'. Will have to get you and Vic (and the ladies) back up this way again and break some bread.

I wish I had the dough to take the big bike off your hands...

Is anyone out there interested in joining me at Karick Lake at about 8:30?

If not I will make other plans?

i ride my 2013 690 to work all the time- crestview to eglin...people say i am crazy but its great in traffic. the only thing that sucks is the high speed wobble. its either the front tire type, suspension, or the light weight of the front. i just have to sit on the front of the bike and lean forward kinda like a crotch rocket and that works. maybe a tank bag would add some weight up front...

Drop the forks a hair. A windshield also added more downforce without adding weight up high.
I ran a Scorpion PRO on the front of mine and had speed wobble issues until I put the windscreen on. Seemed much more planted going down the road, and didn't weigh dick for offroad.

i also went up a tooth on the front to 16t. made the bike perfect for me. i can still haul butt off road and cruise comfortably at 75-80.

FROTH!!! Where you been son???!!! Great to see you back on the forum!!

RE: 690's--they are all badass, but you know you are going to want to get it off the road--and PapaWheelie will back this up-- the 690 Enduro will do fine to commute--he rode/rides his to the trails many times.

The Duke is practically in a class by itself and fine for commuting or hooliganism --it is only other bike I have considered buying lately... Since you still have the 530, get the Duke and let me have a little saddle time!!

I'm going to be there Vic. Never been there so will have to find my way around. North from Baker, right? And look for the day use area?

I'll be in the Suburban pulling the trailer w/ a couple of sissy dualsport bikes. Brother and law and I plan an easy, exploration type ride. If you're going to be there and don't mind a couple of slow guys tagging along, I'd appreciate some help learning the area.

Leaving Evergreen around 0630 and will hit a drive through for a biscuit, so probably at Karrick a little before 0800.

I'll pm you my cell just in case.

Frank

Mine was the E so the fork drop might not have the same effect. BUT the windshield did more than I thought it would. Mainly I think by keeping the wind pushing down on the front, and taking the "push back" off your chest. I wasn't what I'd call cheap, but I'd put another on a 690 in a second- If I ever have another 690, or time to ride it

The 2012 DL650A that I bought in Oct 2012 has EXACTLY 510 miles on it right now, and I don't see that changing anytime soon
