PM thoughts.

My impression is that this will be a small bike friendly ride. I am hoping to preride this weekend and will let you know. Bigger bikes may find this a bit more challenging. This is more like our fast burn rides with very little pavement.

The KTM will clearly be my weapon of choice.

There will be no Enduro single track on the DS ride. You can ride a section of the Gobbler Getter Enduro if so inclined. Bout 12 miles of kick ass. You will be on your own here and ride at your risk.

There may be a Adventure ride for the big bikes. They just don't know it yet.

If this event turns out well there will be others!

I don't always ride street bikes, but when I do I prefer VStroms

I'm looking forward to your scouting report, Vic. I'm in and bringing a couple of guys on 650's. They don't have a ton of off road experience but are very good street riders. I'm hoping this ride will offer enough options to be kind to the non ex racers out here......

Frank,
I'm interested in a good (kinda easy) ride on forest service roads also.
A zoom in on Brian's & Vic's gpd track file shows most of route is on existing roads with what also looks like optional routing to where my topographical software isn't showing roads and must be the "firebreaks" that's being referred to.
Haven't looked at track on Google Earth yet.

Rain forecast at this time for Saturday is 50-60%.
I hate riding in the rain, so will have to wait and see if Vic can go and if weather is gonna cooperate.

Sounds good. I've looked at the tracks too, but can't make out too much detail.

From what I've read in the main ride post, it sounds like this first ride will be pretty inclusive, to get a big crowd and generate some interest. I know the guy putting it on, so I'm looking forward to it.

As I understand it, there will be a long ride Saturday and a shorter one Sunday? If so, we'll probably go up Friday night and spend the weekend.

We rode the route with bduke with two XR650Ls, a KTM LC4, DRZ400S and a CRF250L. All bikes running DOT knobbies. There are hills, ditches, bumps, some mud/water (depending on rain maybe more than some) and national forest roads. The route is a good ride without any super tight sections. The optional single track section comes near the end of the route for the hard core guys.

Thanks, Terry. Is the Sunday ride just a shorter version of the Saturday route?

spring ride

Last year, about this time (well, within 2 weeks), Brett lead a ride with about 7-8 of us through Blackwater and parts of Alebama I believe. It was part of a ride Vic did the weekend before, but I couldn't make it. It was loads of fun, and I haven't been in that area for a while. It was a slow-paced ride with enough sight seeing and good riding to keep everyone entertained (and, the lunch was good and greasy too).

Wondering if someone is planning similar soon...need an excuse to get out and ride more towards yous guys area.

Did that ride involve Supertrapps and fire?

Spring Open Pond Ride

Funny you should mention that - several others have asked.

So yes we will have one at some point. I have one in mind that will be more about views and eating than riding... well sort of...

Start with breakfast and then see all the lakes and waterfall then have lunch etc.

March is too soon and mid April is Perry Mountain so maybe late April early May.
Need to do it before heat sets in...

Maybe next weekend we can do a Black Water exploring ride...

Vic,
I aint gonna make it up there either.
Not feeling real good about not coming, but I just don't feel tip-top this afternoon to gather my stuff to head up early tommorow morning.

Hoping you have a good time and really rub it in on what a great ride we missed!
