d00000d!!! I know exactly where youre at, and it almost swallowed my buddy's 4wheeler - thats a stream entering the bay right there - and yer lucky you stopped b4 the whole bike ended up that deep plus theres a stump hidden right around that exact spot - thats what stopped the 4x4. it is cool to ride on the sand flats tho, when the tides out - come to think of it, ridin out as far as you did with them tires is quite the accomplishment

alllso, Ive seen you ridin around quite a bit, Ive always wondered who it was at gbhs that was ridin the drz with the badass black plastics! now I know.

so yea, sallad, get you some knobs on that thing! ya only need to save up maybe 100-120 bones and you can get you a decent front and rear and some heavy duty tubes, and if you aint got tire irons, you can borrow mine
btw, next time ya get stuck feel free to contact me Ill do what I can man

thanks mug! like I say, memday is permanently chiseled in the schedule

btw, the antibiotics have me feelin much better so ill be out ridin around tomorrow, anyone that aint gotta work hit me up 748-3594 an we'll get to it

What I did was go down to the water from my neighborhood and rode down to there to cross that little stream and then ride back up to the new neighborhood next to mine. Nope, not so fast.

And yup thats me at GBHS.. I ride ever day (except today, didn't have time to make sure everything up front was good before going to PJC class) only 2 more weeks..

Knobbies will come after this set of tires wear out. I was thinking some Pirelli MT60. Any opinions?

Ha, I did early admissions too - small town eh

to be honest, the mt60s just aint gonna cut it around here with all this sand. eric (one of the dudes on the last ride I went on) had some very similar tires, and he left halfway through the day.

youre gonna want something more like 80-90% offroad, if you are a loyal pirelli fan, then check out these:

MT21 s
or you could check out the pirelli scorpion pros

theyll do, however expensive...

I like the dunlop d606:
Rear-

front

have heard good things about the dunlop D908 rallyraids as well:

IRC, Kenda, Maxxis, Bridgestone, an Metzler all make decent looking tyres - if you really wanna do yer research, put each of these in the search bar here and see what you find - guaranteed a million respectable views on all the different tires you can imagine.
also, youll notice if you price these, they are all street legal DOT approved tires, I wouldnt run a non DOT on the street for long, cause not only is it illegal, but ill advised - theyre not designed for the heat of long distance slabbin.
my .02, youll find that if you talk to 50 different people youll get 50 different opinions on the best dualsport tires - you really just gotta go through a few pairs and experience them for yourself

heres a link to one of my favorite sites to buy toys from;
http://www.bikebandit.com/nav/tires?a=3+622988

they have good product, quick turnover, reasonable shipping, and I have had no problems with them ever *knock on wood*

So I guess I will end up having to buy some new wheels because as far as I know the mt60s are the most agressive 17" tire.

Thanks for posting all the info though. The idea of anything except a street tire sounds good to me

Pirelli MT21

I've got the MT21s on my DR650. Great in the sand but not gonna last long commuting. I may try the TKC 80 next time.

Wow, what an issue! Finally a mainstream rag with an issue for us. Go check it out! Luke, hope you saved your rims because there is an add on page 132 for mcwheel.com for repairs. All work guaranteed! Glad things didn't turn out that you needed the article on page 154!

Well thus far, the permanent marker on the calendar has kept this weekend open for me, so im still in it to win it

Im right next to the rez practically, have EG permit, and can meet anywhere but preferably less slab time cause my front end is gettin about time for new rubber. I imagine you fellas might wanna meet up somewhere in town, then ill meet up with ya on EG, unless BW is first on the ridin agenda.

speaking of the front end, does anyone have a spoke wrench that I could possibly borrow? Theres some definetly loose spokes on the front wheel of the XT and I'd rather use the correct tool before resorting to the ole crescent wrench and end up rounding them shits off.
and if its my lucky day, does one of you fellas have any spokes just lyin around? possibly oness that might fit my XT225? one of the front spokes is broke off right at the nipple. probably has something to do with all the loose spokes.

Mug, hopefully I'll have my EG permit today, I'm working in Destin and if I finish up early enough am heading up to Jackson Guard to obtain that permit. (FINALLY.) I did explore Hutton Saturday PM, spent an hour back there and apparently had the whole place to myself. Need to go back to explore some of the side trails...

Jerry, don't have a spoke wrench or any spare spokes, I've always used Ye Olde Crescent Wrenche myself, but as you know you've gotta be super careful...professional mechanics say crescent wrenches ain't the right tool for ANY job. Then again, I'm not a professional mechanic, never will be, and didn't even stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Looking forward to the ride!

I have one in the KLR bag but try to just use a 6mm wrench. If that still does not work, we can try to meet up and you can use mine. When I tightned the XR's I had to use needle nose vise grips and a lot of WD-40! Also I have a Pirelli Scorpion A/T, 90/90-21 I don't need. I took it off the KLR and installed the Kenda K270's. Not too much of a serious off-roader but hell, the price is right!

yea, some mini vise grips and 3-in-1 oil got them spokes a lil tighter, I think she'll sail ok for now.

Dakota - is that pirelli the street tire (mt90)? or is it knobby(mt21)? either way thanks for the offer - and if it is knobby I very well may take you up on it, cause the front is quite chewed up after about 2 years of hard ridin.

XT, It's the MT90. Still almost new. If you want it let me know. Not to rag on the little XT but I also have a 17" offroad knobby in the garage for Lil' Daks's YZ-85.

I'll see y'all Saturday. Mugwest. Take point. When and where? My day is wide open as it can be. Sunrise to sunset, is my plan and hopefully yours as well. If anyone is up for a super early ride, I might depart in haste to catch the morning cool. I'm thinking 6:30 Pensacola departure. Now that's from Innerarity so add some time for that. Tony and XT, looking forward to seeing you goofs. Looks like we get to meet some new folks as well. Great. I vote we cover much ground mostly including EG, BW and all things dirt in between. Red brick is alright too, cause I have beef with a certain section on a most favorite run.
Is Eric coming? Had noticed he didn't chime in unless I missed it. Someone PM XTThumper, ya' know, guy that started the damn group.
I was out at BW last Sunday and after all that rain it was lovely. Sand behaved and the gumbo was a plenty. I actually kept hearing a bike and could never seem to cross paths. Any of y'all out there? The DR needed some playtime.

Mug, let's take a road ride this week in the evening. The Blackbird needs a good workout. Call me if you're up for it. And anyone else for that matter.

Catch youz guys this weekend.

Kenda Trakmaster II rear, Pirelli Scorpion pro front. Works well in deep sand and very good on the street! Oh, BTW, being the frugal bastid that I am, they are fairly cheap when purchased from Rocky Mountain ATV. Just my .02 worth! The rear lasted about 2600 miles but at $50 +/- a pop, who cares. Check 'em out, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Sat. Ride!

I plan to be parking at 87 & the Yellow River. I will try to be on 2wheels by 7:30-8:00am. So, just let me know where to go from there.
Should I invite some other guys, or is the group plenty big enough?

I have XTJerry & Mugwest in my cell phone.
