riding Arizona

First week of April, coming from Los Angeles area. I'm supposed to visit a relative, and friends in the Carefree,Scottsdale area, a buddy has us camping of the 87 somewhere.

Any trails I should see, special sites, sights? I will be traveling with a self contained camper van, xr600 or xr650r on the back rack, street legal. Pretty competent, self reliant rider. I'm eyeballing the map, think I might loop back to the 17 via the 87, then either out the 40 for home or turn south and back the 10.

How is it up there above Payson? Snowed in and muddy or good riding off road? Any great camp sites?

Van pic ..should fit anywhere, cold weather no problem.

Going to be there same week for Scottsdale Art Auction but probably without bike. Will be there next week with bike and van, then up to Moab to ride Old Spanish Trail.

You may want to look at riding parts of the Great Western Trail say from Camp Verde to Grand Canyon.

Will check out the area, any good camp sites, decent scenery and trail access?

Four Peaks Rd/AKA Cline Cabin Rd

Since you will be close, you should ride Four Peaks Rd to the west end of Roosevelt lake. Then take A Cross Rd around the north shore of Roosevelt lake. You end up at Hwy 288 just northwest of Globe.

Four Peaks Rd is a dirt path that starts on Hwy 87 a few miles north of Fountain Hills. It rides east over the top of the Four Peaks and down the other side to Roosevelt. It is a nice ride on a dirt road that isn't really technical, but still full of rocks and baby heads. You'll see a lot of quads and such as well as dirt bikes. It is easy to follow as it is the most well travelled path through there.

A Cross is marked and starts on hwy 188 within a couple hundred yards east of where Four Peaks Rd ends. There are a couple water crossings but they have cement bottoms and are easy.
