Hey Stu Cazzo and Nowhat, Are you guys going up the 33 or the 5 and what time and where are you meeting? I live in Camarillo so meeting at the 126 and 5 are good, or 101 and Las Posas in Camarillo.

Sorry this is late. Just rode in from Mendocino.. Also rode the CA25 from Hollister to San Miguel... Nice 5th gear twisties for a hundred miles...

2 days of full riding, what a blast!

Thanks to Bob for snagging the campsites, to Dennis for the guided and informative tour, and to everyone who showed up.

Saturday, was pretty sedate, we had Bob/XR400R, Dennis/950A, Toni/400EXC, Darren/CR450X, Paul/640A, Wally/GSA1200, and myself/CXR400R. Sorry Artboy, we missed you and didn't cross path.

The next day, the FFs showed up. The Sunday riders include Mike/950E, Tahi/950A, Ed/GS100 PD, Frank/GS100 PD, Jeff/GS Rubicon , Wally/GSA1200, John/KLR650, Hassan/GS1150SE, and myself.

Good mix of riding skills, and variety of bikes Most of the guys rode 300 to 400 miles for all the same reason, come to Carrizo and add another 150 miles to their weary bikes.

I'll post the pics next.

The weather was beautiful, no bike scratches, and no flats.

Hope everyone had a good and memorable weekend, cause I surely did.

If you see this sign, that means you're there

The Soda Lake Rd, leading to Selby Camp. One of the longest dirt road I've ever been on (excluding my driveway), my guess is about 30 miles.

To camp and another 3 miles of dirt!

Can't bring our guns, so we brought the bikes!

Everyone here in this pic is mild mannered, quite a contrast with the FFs showing up the next day. What a pleasant group! No bs, no swearing, no insults, no showing off, stayed on the trail all the time, pardon my dust, etc.

Quite a cultured group, listened to every word the comes out of our tour guide Dennis (in black Aerostitch)

Prickin' Dennis, he would not advise us to ride our bikes, we have to walk the distance to see a portion of the San Andreas Fault. Even in a broken-in Sidi Disco, my feet hurt.

San Andreas Fault

The big crack

As you can see, everyone is paying attention to Dennis

More tomorrow, time to hit the sack......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zz

Not just a lady, she's a kick ass rider on a KTM400EXC. My air-cooled XR400R is no match and sucking up all her dust.

Anybody have GPS tracks from the ride?

Looks like a good time. I am just over the hill on the coast. Thought about you guys this weekend.

I don't think any of the guys have a gpx, we just relied on our trusty guides Dennis on Saturday, and Wally on Sunday (the bottle of Jim Beam had no effect on Wally's decision making on the next morning, he lead us home safely ).

The trails from Elkhorn were easy to find because they are unpaved roads and in the maps, but the Caliente side is difficult because they're not roads, and some of them are private properties.

Half of our time was spent on the not too touristy part of Carrizo, and I don't think any of us were logging the waypoints.

Since we had so much fun, we may be in Carrizo again next April 2009!

Ok, skipping lunch for you FFs !

Another view of San Andreas while getting lectures from Dennis.

Paul, Bob, and Wally

Another view from the top! Sweet CR450X with tail and signal lights ! I noticed that Toni has been staring at her 400EXC

Dang leaky water cooled bikes! Looks like the ride for Toni (EXC) is coming to an end. I felt sorry for Toni and Darren they have to bail out, they are cool couples that love to ride. Next time.....

The group still manage to get more rides out of the present situation

That's a dirt road you see there, just maintained perfectly!

Dennis took us into this beautiful valley and a surprise awaits

As we come out of the canyon, this is what we saw, hundreds or thousands of oil pumps!

Finally, we stopped at this restaurant on HW33 in Taft for lunch.

Dennis also knows where the good restaurants are

After stuffing ourselves, time to ride again, and this time Dennis switched to a real dirtbike for more technical riding

Oooops, break time is over, more after I get home.

Secret Pansies Location

There's not much left to see any more pansies. The full bloom was 3 weeks ago.

Dennis asking us if we want to see the Pansies

You don't see anything from here, but it's over there in a secret location

Off we went

Dennis didn't waste any time, we took the difficult but short cut to the secret location

It's farther than we expected

Finally, we're getting closer

But we have to tresspass to get there

Wally have a soft spot for pansies and could not wait

Finally, is this it?

Dennis replied "No, no, no......it's around the corner, just don't tell anyone, my wife doesn't even know about this".

We all headed back to the camp with something to remember which the Sunday FFs will never see.
