I like 'em in green. This is my /5 in a forest green. Its been referred to as "British racing green", but its actually a Ford color.

Nice job on the black one you did!

ooh, I like the solid black alot - looks real sleek and serious, and somehow makes the bike alot harder to date, with that timeless fairing design and all...

I like the black and the Blue and the Green and the Red. Doh!

I really like the /5 models you guys have. I don't think I've ever seen one over here with the chrome tank.

I've gone for the Satin black, just need to do the fairing lowers and one side panel. I'll be putting a white stripe down the top of the tank. It will do for a short term fix until I can spend some quality time on the bike.

You're right about the work involved in the fairing Beemerdude. Mines an Ex Police fairing with 30 years of different owners bodged spray jobs on. It realy took some rubbing down.

Great thread !
It is giving me some good ideas for my project. 1983 R100RS somewhere around 90,000+ miles.
I love the motorsport in the white and orange/red, but now Y'all have me thinking.
So what are your thoughts on it.

Thanks Farmer,,,, But pictures lie and that is her good side! Lots of paint chips and some are bigger than chips. It spent some of its life in the hands of an owner that did not care for it as he should. The original owner repossessed it for the lack of care and spent a couple of years going over it mechanically. Other projects became available and I was given a chance of ownership.
I have lusted after a Airhead RS since 1977, I want this one to look a proud as I am to own it. Hopefuly for many years to come.

Probably the same as the Bronze paint on mine. For some strange reason it looked pretty good on the Photograph.

Motorsports good.

Go with a Last Edition paint job.

Great choice! It still looks good, kind of "industrial" yet Personalized. When you decide on your paint color and am ready to put that thought-out paint job on her...you may just decide, "Why?"....it looks great as it is!!!!!!!!

Bet 'ya ride her in that mode for a long while....

Enjoy her...she'll look great to YOU from the driver's seat!!!!!!!!!

I've always thought that a cheeky and fun paint scheme
would be to do a black to red fade.

Only have it be semi flat black to primer red fade
Same as the R90S style fades

but only done on the cheap and with primer.

Lay down some stock style pinstripes in white or silver
and the bike would look pretty good.

Other wise the best color for an RT is the red then curry then basic black
But BMW's got to have the pinstripes or they look really really heavy.

I like that color. But if you're gonna paint it I'd go black.

Go with the black or deep gray "crackle paint'......damage? scratches?.....no problemo....just give her another "squirt".....

unless you go with pink and bukkake artwork like that Manhattan douche, i don't think it's possible to make an RS-faired bike look bad. I always thought the dark green metallic of the late-90's/early 2000's 5-series would be killer

My 77 RS had been resprayed w/ a dark blue Chrysler/Dodge color when i got it and looked quite good.

the coat was mostly good, but in a cool way the re-spray flaked off in places revealing the original '77 silver/blue and hand painted Berlin pinstripes

I do prefer black frames on BMW bikes. If/when i get a 12GS i'll powdercoat the rear subframe black
