After i fooled with it for days, i finally switched out some things and got it to run like crap for a bit..

I took it on a spell up the road and it was spitting, missing and boggin'...

I pulled into a friends drive, and as i sat there thinkin, 'was that thee Satan, for real?' ... I heard the gas dribbling and gurgling , and i smelled it so i looked down...

I had a PUDDLE of gas sitting right below me...running out the carb overflow like a waterfall..

so I booked it home, turning off the petcock a few times...that was yesterday..
and today as far as i can tell, no flood issues, it still runs ok...

but, why did the snake show up, touch my bike, dang near crawls into it....and then my NX gives me a head and horns hissysnit??

Cursed?

The curse of jerkos is appon you. Swing a dead cat three times counter clockwise ,while hopping on one leg facing east toward the rising sun
And never again post on the other NX thread!

You my friend need some good mojo and maybe a new plug, carb cleaned
and perhaps switch out your coil.

17 inch wheel gear ratios

Picked up a nice 17 inch xl wheel. Curious what those of you that have switched over decided on for sprockets? With what results?

I used a 47t which is a tad low but would let me 80mph just before redline. A 45t would have been perfect for me.

My New NX250

Well I finally sold my 620 Multistrada and decided that the climate that I live in, both geographically and financially, was not fitting for a $5Kish motorcycle. That is when I came across this beautiful specimin. 1989 Honda NX250 with only 3100 mile and nary a scratch on it!

The pics:

Only problem is that the battery doesn't want to hold a charge. Runs like a top once the battery is charged!

I stuck with the 'stock ratio' gearing sprockets...
I think...the sprockets are the ones one it when i purchased it. I know the rear is stock 41.
I will confirm that as soon as i put on my new ones...which ARE stock.

It moved 6th into a 'true' overdrive, and moved 5th up to where the original 6th was with the 16" wheel. I like it, because now 3th and 4th are two highway (45 and 55 mph) passing gears, with 5th being the old 6th....
and 6th becoming a (65+) in the mid 6s on the tach, i think...

*I'll add the actual RPM numbers for speeds in*HERE* when i remember them, with the gearing i have.

brand new to all things motorcyclic

After skulking for a month or so I finally am saying hello to the folks who ride the NX250. I purchased mine, a 1988 model, with just under 13k miles, in mid-April this year because I could afford it and I could reach the ground. (I'm 5'4" and 135 lbs) It is my first motorcycle in my 53 years and it is a hoot! I commute about 25 miles round trip and get about 80 mpg. I have learned a great deal from reading the two NX250 threads, though I currently am not making plans to visit Greece. The fellow I bought the bike from rescued it from a box, and did a good job of making it street safe. It currently has street tires (King Tire) which suits my present ride needs fine. I have added a pair of Waah-Mart driving lights w/35 watt bulbs (the 55w bulbs drained the battery as I rode!) so far this is my only mod. I do have a few questions for you-all, as your experience is far longer and deeper than mine.
1) fuel- my state (Oregon) recently mandated that all regular gas contain 10% ethynol - is this a problem in a motorcycle? Should I opt for the higher octane which does not have ethynol added?
2) rear rack - has anyone tried to fit the cycleracks rear rack to the NX250? the rack for the xr250l looks as if it might fit (with some mods?).
3) radiator hoses - I am currently disabled by hose leaks, I was able to slide the pre-formed sleeves off the old hose and hope to slip them onto new bulk hoses (much cheaper and available immediately at my auto supply store) - is this reasonable? ( I had ordered new hoses from BikeBandit but they were back ordered indefinately.)
pardon the long-winded post and thanks for your thoughts

AMS

Thanks VC, and thanks for putting this thread together! Just enjoyed my first little ride on it; I am very impressed with the handling, and i am coming from a Ducati. Like I said, only issue i am seeing is this battery that won't hold a charge; would it be anything other than a shot battery? Also, any thoughts on jetting it my high altitude (i live at ~8000).
Thanks again.

I DON'T think he was looking for 'unsafe' mods either...

Welcome to the thread that has a sense of humor and won't poopoo you for making your bike the way you want it to be. There are many here who can help with answering questions for parts and service.

When ever you do something to your bike, just blame Jeff.
