Battery problems
Quote:
If it’s good, the regulator should be good. Shut bike off and measure voltage at battery terminals while cranking the starter. If below 10 volts, the battery may be suspect. If the voltage is 12 volts or below while running at 2000 rpm, your regulator or alternator may be bad. You could also check for a short. Disconnect the battery and with ignition switch off, measure from positive battery wire to chassis. ( The wire lead, not the battery terminal ) Here’s a link to electrical trouble shooting for the NX. http://www.powers31.info/nx250.htm Scroll down to heading… NX250 Ignition System ( from 1988 Honda Service Manual ) { View as a pdf file } The NX250 shop manual. Link is just below. Note: It may take a while for this file to display. larry31 screwed with this post 02-23-2013 at 08:03 AM |

Time to sell the old girl
I hate to do it, but I think it's time. I need to get a bike for my boy that doesn't cry so much when you drop it.
89NX250 $800 Located in Bastrop Texas, just east of Austin. 21/17 tires and the stock 19/16 go with it as well. I have a few things not shown also included, like the passenger pegs and a rack for saddlebags. The sprockets are brand new (one ride) and the chain is an expensive D.I.D. x-ring that should never wear out on this little 250. There are handguards, a one-way sign skidplate, and a flood light for better nighttime vision. She runs really strong, the valves/camchain/tensioner are in spec, but is having a hard time shifting from 1st to 2nd. Most of the time she just goes to neutral unless you time the revs just right and powershift without the clutch. I thought seriously about splitting the cases and fixing the problem, but I'm ready to sell and know I won't recoup the cost. I obviously went the high fender/aftermarket headlight/cut down plastics route. There is no speedo. I have the broken left tank cover and I may try to rebuild it. The tank had a pinhole leak that was repaired with gas tank putty and a sheet metal screw over a year ago. I really don't want to part a running, titled bike. I would rather sell it outright at $800 and let someone who will keep it for a while do the work to make it theirs, but if I don't have any interest I will start to take it apart and sell the bits on ebay. Pm me if you are interested.

We got a couple days of warm (>32*F) days here recently so I untarped the NX, flipped the choke, and hit the button. Vroom! Fired up like I just shut it off.

So my dad gave me one of these 89' NX250 (only 2900 miles on it). Well I got it running and took it out. Was tons of fun. It's not my first bike I now have 2 bikes one for my normal cruising and this one which I am considering a toy.
One thing I eventually want to do with it is going on a weekend ride out here in the desert (AZ) and that will need some sort of saddle bags to put some extra items in. I am wondering if anyone has ever custom fitted ones for it like maybe attaching some old ammo boxes to it is kind of what I was thinking? I don't want to really invest a ton of money into this thing bike. Any idea's or inexpensive ways to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated. Here are a pictures of it from my last day trip if anyone is carious :)

has anyone found a cheap source for the brake caliper piston seals, and dust seals for the NX?
$25 is kinda high for four rubber bands ![]() rebuilding a spare first, then just going to swap it with the one on the bike. hopefully the issues with tire wear, caliper wear, slow acceleration and poor mpg's will ALL clear up... It just appears like the caliper pistons are finally crudded up and dragging slightly..? Will, of course, shoot photos and write it up!(brake rebuild, YAY) Also, it's time for the valve adjustement again........that's right, AGAIN. 600 + 26000 +26000 Miles fly when you are having such a good time
