NX250 mileage

Can anyone tell me what I might expect for mileage from my 1990 NX250. Still in the rebuild stage, but getting close.
Thanks in advance.

I get between 78 and 85 mpg ( US miles )
Not pushing it, I can easily get mid 80's running 40 - 60 mph on back roads.

Mixed road and trail riding drops it down some.. 75 - 80 mpg

I would add that these numbers jibe with mine when I'm running on REAL, 100% gasoline. In the last year, it's become impossible to get that in my area. With the 10% ethanol mix, my mileage drops by 10 mpg.

Go to. Buyrealgascom. Put in your zip code and presto! It's worth the extra loot!

Closest store is 100 miles from my home. I'd burn up a tank and a half just getting home with it.

My ride yesterday.

Did this little ride yesterday, and though I'd share it. It's only about a couple of miles round trip.

Motorcycle Almost Starting up!

So i been on here a few times trying to figure out why my motorcycle will just randomly just shutoff going down the highway with no luck. Recently it sounds like it going to start and just wont. I took a video to show you guys. Its Started suddenly at the end of the video with it was a surprise. But then shut off 10 seconds later. But The video shows what its doing when im trying to start it. Take a Look.

I believe the Magneto Or i guess its called Startermotor is going out.
Can anyone help? I would also be interested in another nx250 for maybe parts or as a second bike. Thanks

Motorcycle Almost Starting up!

Hey Guys. I posted on this thread before saying my motorcycle is turning off while driving it down the highway or street with no luck on solving the problem. I think i came close to figuring out what it is. I believe the Magneto or Stater Motor is going out. It wont start up anymore. Sounds like its going too but just wont. I took a video to show you guys. I was surprised it started at the end of the video but died after like 10 seconds. If anyone in the central Texas has a NX250 they dont mind selling for parts or maybe another one to just ride around. Let me know. Lets try to solve this once and for all guys!

Here is the Video.

If you get a bright blue spark at your plug while trying to start the bike then it should be a carb issue. have you checked your fuel line btw?
you can always try to spray some carb cleaner fluid on that thing (after you have removed the air filter of course)

I can't view the video, but if the tach needle does not move while cranking the motor over, then the CDi is suspect #1

Certainly, without a doubt....Your NX's CDI box has failed.
Replace the CDI and ride away...
It's 100% positively the Capacitive Discharge Ignition(CDI) box in your case at this very moment.

Maybe this will help. http://www.powers31.info/nx250.htm Scroll down to the section.. "NX250 Ignition System"
Give detailed info on checking out the CDI and ignition system.

^^^^ THIS!!

The little 'pop' you are getting when you first hit the start button is the original spark...
(If you pulled the spark plug, and hit the starter button, you would see ONE spark, and one spark only, even if you hold the button down)

Also, when you hit the starter button, you will see the tach needle 'jump' at the initial button press, but THEN the tach needle will drop and not move ANY, no matter how long you hold the button down..

IF both of those conditions are true, it is the CDI that is bad..

When my original CDI went bad, it was riding fine....and like a light switch, the bike shut off and would not re-start...
after a few minutes, it DID restart
but after 4-5 days, it finally failed to start at all...until replaced the CDI.

Feel free to inquire more, if you need to....

If you search CDI in the thread, you'll find multiple vendors for NX CDI's..
I would personally get the 88-89 one, over the '90 one..
I think the '90 ignition curve is a little mellower, but that could just be me?

Good luck!

ServiceHonda.com
Rockymountainatvmc.com (they now sell OEM parts, YAY!)
Partzilla.com
CycleParts.com

(there are MANY, many more good vendors...
Try to find the cheapest price, and then try to get the 100% price guarantee place to beat the low price....)

A little trip down memory lane

Last week I took my NX out for one of my favorite rides. It goes through a flood control area. On one end it has OHRV trails. It traverses an old road that used to go through a part of my hometown. Back in 1936 there was a flood that wiped out a major part of that town. In the late 50’s they moved the entire town up to higher ground, and built a flood control dam. Over the years, the area has grown up and wiped out most traces of the original house sites. Currently it’s used for fishing, and at one end, for the OHRV trails.
My favorite part is the ride shown in this video.
Enjoy…. http://youtu.be/PnOh51Nf90c

sooooooo

I started thinking about the new crf250l. I read the threads for hours.
I started needing the new crf250l. I was ready to start wheeling and dealing, and I started shopping around for a lightly
used pre farkled one. Fly and ride sounds like a good vacation this year...
,..................THEN
I did a nx250 to crf250 side by side. Comparison.....
The crf is 30ishpounds heavier!
its 6 horsies less! Ish.
Suspension travel is very similar, (better I'm sure)
Tank is smaller, mpg is less...
sure a new bike with fuel injection would be nice...but not 4500 nice.
anyway hope everyone is having a good summer. Ride safe eh?
