So, I recently purchased one of these bikes, and I love it already! I've been lurking on here for a while, and looking for one of these bikes. When one popped up on my local Craigslist, I jumped on it. After I bought it though, I noticed something as we were loading it into the truck. It appears to have a broken weld in the area indicated by the red line in the attached photo. (Hopefully you guys will be able to see where I'm talking about) It looks like an engine mount or something? Have any of you guys ever seen anything like this?

Honda never sold sealing and bearing or the complete front cover separately, so you would have to buy a new starter engine. But don´t bother, it’s not available anymore.
The dimensions of the starter engine front cover (towards the starter gear) sealing and bearing are pretty exotic (13.5mm) and not easy to get:

Sealing BC1693F 13.5 X 24 X 6
Bearing HK 13.5 X 19 X 12

We finally found a source in Germany, but in other parts of the world you have to look for yourself ;-).
But there is another option: the Mitsuba starter engine is used in 99% of all motorcycles and ATVs, only the cover differ. So you can take a complete front cover from a TRX ATV, spare part number 31210-HC4-003.

The TRX cover has a one piece sealed bearing without a lock washer, so when used on a NX250 starter engine, you must eschew the lock washer.

As for the reason for the water-oil emulsion: if the o-ring (nr10) is leaky, the engine sucks in air, and the moisture of the air starts to accumulate in the starter gear and starter engine. The next thing that usually happens is that the bearing of the front cover starts to corrode and the starter engine will make a lot of unpleasant noise.
my starter makes an hrrible noise!!
So des it come from the special Bearing HK 13.5 X 19 X 12?
I saw a 900 cbr starter for cheap, mistuba MT-23,does it fit directly? and no more noise?
the starter: http://www.leboncoin.fr/equipement_m...36.htm?ca=12_s

mine,like a lifting:

Try the first page of this thread, there's some links there. (I believe the info for the wheel swap starts on page 67)

I am very sorry to not have properly indexed this growing thread by now.

have made several attempts, but nothing has been accomplished at this point.

I will complete a new (better) index as soon as reasonably possible, and it will be much easier and complete.

Again, my apologies for not already having this done.

The wheel you are looking for comes from the
1984-1987 XL250R honda, or
XL350R honda.

Most likely. It`s almost always the front bearing of the starter engine, in very few cases the bearings of the starter reduction gear corroded, resulting in similar noise.

Since my crystal ball is in repair I have no idea As said, the starter engines are the same but their front covers (back covers as well) are different and I do not know which other might fit.
Moreover, since that bearing is a weak point of those starters, most used ones are also defective, so even if that starter engine fit, it might continue screeching.

Here you can get sealing and bearing

MANY starter motors are identical with different nose pieces(shaft and gear wheel) and different backs..
but the motor length/depth + diameter (body case) is the determinant iirc

For example take the Nighthawk 450 starter, switch the NX nosepiece and now viola'
NX starter...
(THAT was a FOR EXAMPLE, i'm NOT stating that the Nighthawk450 starter will exchange, but to give an example to what Scrambler66 was trying to say)

I will dig around and see if i can find the starter motor 'common bike' list..
I know i saw one somewhere

After some thought, i seem to recall CustomerService(Sir Mobs) covering this early on IN THIS THREAD.

I'm sure it's in here, search this thread or his posts...

I knew this was covered...just took a little thought

too me,the best choice are kawasaki er5 wheels because front wheel has the disc on lthe left and rear wheel has drum brake.
On my bike,I put cb500 wheels (and fork, more slower and stiffer),that's such à probleme with front disc on the right, odometer doesnt work...
