They will be okay. My NX (actually an AX-1) is only one of my bikes - but has been a very reliable daily driver since early 2010.

I don't have time to work on the head myself, but hopefully will get away with a bill of less than $200.

Otherwise I may just set the bitch on fire

The XR650L (dunno ‘bout the XR650R) and the NX250 got the same calipers but different brackets. So as you said, the combination NX bracket / XR caliper fits perfectly. BTW, the bracket of the XR650L was designed to fit the NX650 front wheel with larger 256mm brake disk. So with the XR650L bracket (or the complete XR caliper, as shown below), you can mount a NX650/XR650L front wheel in the NX250.

Got my bike back together. It seems that the thermostat broke, which caused it to get hot as shit and blow out the water-pump seal and the head-gasket. New head gasket, new meechanical seal on waterpump and no thermostat from here on, just free flow.

Re-seated two valves and now it purrs like a kitten.

Cost of repair to me - $88.25.

Lovely Now to treat her to a bit of cosmetic work. . .

Another NX250 adventure

I rode my NX over 250 miles yesterday. Left home and traveled up through our White mountains here in N.H.

The highlight of the trip was my ride up Mount. Washington Auto road.

Here's a 13 min. video of that ride up. http://youtu.be/Xgd4QzoEOiA

BTW: The NX performed flawlessly.

chain tick

Did you ever solve that problem?
Sounds suspiciously like something I experienced with another NX – the timing chain is new (but an aftermarket one, maybe that’s the problem), the tensioner seems to be ok – but still there is a slight, but disturbing rattling during de-acceleration. Maybe a broken piston ring? Has anyone an idea?

AX 1 Plastics

Has anybody bought the AX 1 plastics they are advertising on Ebay? Do the AX radiator shrouds fit on the NX tank?

Nice bike Scrambler, thanks for the pictures.

Just ordered a pair for mine.

Now I just have to figure out something for the headlight as the cowl is busted up and ready to fall off...

cdi

Hello,
Has anyone ever tried any of these cheap CDI units ... if they work at all...
I am thinking of buying one as a replacement and test since they are kind of cheap... but if someone allready been there i'd rather not get into trouble.
Thanks.

Have you checked the condition of the aluminum head cam mounts?
I had a funduro beemer once that used to rattle like that.
I had to replace both the mounts and the cams on that thing. I was lucky because all them rotax singles have detachable mounts and there was no need for a brand new head.
If thats the case try to find a pair of AX-1 cams, the lobes are a bit longer and thats a good thing.

never mind, found the reason

Now that’s the kiss of death for that engine. A piston pin with too much play - the piston rod was never sold separately by Honda, the complete crankshaft is not available anymore – and most used ones are probably in a similar condition. Dang. I wish I'd live in Cambodia where somebody would fix that for 88 bucks ;-)
