I like shiny too... I've been looking for an AX-1 headpipe, with no luck so far. Has anyone heard anything about Jet Hot coatings? http://www.jet-hot.com/headercoatings.html

Now you're thinking!
I've seen it used on dirt trackers and street trackers. Never used thier service, but I have heard it works and looks great.

I do alot of traveling guys, you just have to be patient with me. I just got back from being in NY since last wednesday.
I just checked my PM's and I have a bunch of people that sent me their info. I am not ready for that yet, I still have to talk to Works and see what info they need. I will post on here when I have everything ready.

Welcome ineedarest and Honda Scoot:
Guys I do apologize if I dont have any pictures of the engine modified since it came in assembled from the Guy who made it.

Anyways any suggestions since I'm planing to paint the whole engine black like the new XR's if I use ordinary paint for the cylinder head will it last or I really need the high temp ones.

For the guys who painted the whole engine any feed back please. thanks.

1. Strip any and all previously painted surfaces with paint stripper.
2. Use Lacquer thinner to neutralize and clean off all the paint stripper.
3. Scuff all sufaces. (3M abrasive pad)
4. Clean all surfaces perfectly!
5. Wipe every surface with paint prep (grease & wax remover).
6. Mask anything not to be painted.
7. Use 500 deg. F high temp. paint.
8. If you use High Gloss it will stay High Gloss.
9. You can use rubbing compound to really make it shine. (Wait a week)

Painting is all in the preparation.
Spay it thin. Heavy coats look bad (can orange peel) and will paint the engine shut making any future disassembly difficult.

See my Yamaha XS650 engine in High Gloss Black after assembly.

Engine Paint

Additional Notes:

When I wrote "Mask anything not to be painted" that includes all gasketed surfaces and intake / exhaust ports. Basically the engine should be diassembled as much as possible. Keep all of your cleaning and sanding dust out of the engine.

After painting wait a few days before running the engine. When you do start the engine, Heat cycle the paint by starting the engine and turning it off as soon as you smell the paint. Let it cool and repeat many times. This will allow the paint to cure better.
