Old School.

Yeah, I know, plain, boring, nothing fancy, but holds one hell of an edge and can't break it.

I can get them for about $15 at a local store. Just have to look and make sure you are getting one that is made in the USA. A lot of gerbers stuff is made in China now.

The Mora knife...

there is no better knife for any adventuring you might ever do, hold a killer edge. are like 10$ so you won't care if you end up hammering it through a tree with a branch to make firewood (and they don't much mind you doing that to them)

for a pocket knife I carry at all times a kershaw scallion speedsafe

great one hand opening, holds a good edge.

I keep my Kershaw Ken Onion Leek in my tank bag at all times. I love the assisted one-hand opening. The nice comes razor sharp out of the box, and it's stayed that way through lots of abuse.

The lefty version Emerson CQC-7. 9 years, and 2 re-coatings later and still going strong.

That's my problem. What I do is buy about 6 of the $3.99 auto parts store lockback specials and stash them everywhere. One in my pocket, one in the tankbag, one in the pickup, etc. They hold an edge every bit as good as you would expect a $3.99 knife to but when I lose it (and I will) I'm only out $3.99.

As part of the permanent kit on the bike I keep an original Leatherman and an Old Timer Cattleman. Those are what I use when I get to the campsite and actually have to do some food prep or something.

This fits well in a tank bag.
