Argh! What to buy, HELP!
Sheesh. So I had totally made up my mind to buy a new or '07 Uly. I go yesterday and test drive 3 bikes: 2006 Uly (yes, I know the '07s and '08s are very different), Tiger, and my 2nd demo run on a 950 KTM Supermoto. I get done and I can't seem to shake it, I friggin' love, love, love the 950 Supermoto; however, it just doesn't seem like a practical bike, especially given the fact that I want to take some 400+ mile trips on weekends so forth. Any suggestions????? I'm so confused.
I liked the Tiger but it was a little wide and not as flickable as I would have hoped. The Uly was nice but the damn dealer went out on the demo with me and I never really got to check the bike out much, and plus, not to offend any Uly owners here, but the bike got hot in only 15 minutes of riding in 65 degree weather. The Supermoto is, well, frankly, nothing compares to it that I test drive, I just seem so in sync with the bike but I would feel guilty in buying it, just doesn't seem like a traveler maybe? Maybe I should just keep my 2003 Moto Guzzi tourer and buy a 690 KTM supermoto for riding around town? The supermotos seem to really suit my daily bike routine. AAAAAAHHHHHH. Gonna buy a bike in the next two weeks. Please, someone help this stupid fellow out????? |

Hi John,
Have you tried a 990 Adventure? Seems like it would do the touring and still let you be a hooligan around town (if you wanted to)... I know how you feel, I've been pondering the question for weeks, before settling on a 955 Tiger... Good luck, and whatever you do, get the bike that makes you giggle! JB

The fan(s) on the Uly drive me nuts. They are 747 loud and seem to run forever after the bike is turned off.
If you are 5'9" the Uly seems like it would be much too tall anyway. Can you flat-foot that thing? |

Have never got to throw a leg over a KTM but the Duc Hyper sure was FUN Granted it would replace my sprint as the "toy" in the garage but its way to spendy for my taste. The practical reference you made is the answer your looking for ... I think |

Go with the Uly. I love em so much I have 3
Tried a Tiger for about 300 miles and traded it in on a Uly. I have a 990 KTM Adv and like it but not as much as the Uly. I have owned a lot of bikes on and off road but can't remember having as much fun as I have everytime I ride one of my Ulys. Putting some louder pipes on increases the fun.

The KTM super moto is a blast to ride. I looked at one and thought of selling my Uly. But I like to take off on long trips 2-3 times a year. The KTM just does not fit in that profile for me like the Uly does. If I could have a second new bike it would probably be the KTM or Ducati Hypo.

Get the 950 Supermoto. If you don't you'll regret it every time you get on your new bike.
Most folks find they won't be able to do as many long trips as they'd like anyway. And when you do, it'll be easy to ignore a little discomfort when you're having a blast on a bike you love. Motorcycles aren't about practicality, They're about lust!

I guess I need to try a 950 Super Moto. Maybe I will trade in my Adv.
