Ah, my first bike.
A happy bike it was. A German butch dyke helped me pick it out. ![]() Suzuki GS650. 4 little cylinders -- it took off really nicely but stopped pulling somewhere around 50mph. ![]() a nice light city bike, great starter. Rebuilt the carbs once, had it for a year. Very fun to play with for the most part. Brakes a bit squooshy, suspension sucked, but it had spunk. Unfortunately, on one clear valentines day I was riding up to campus and I was nailed by someone doing a u-turn, looking in his rear-view mirror while he was doing it. these things happen. here's what was left of the bike. ![]() ![]() ![]() I sold the bike for $250 to a mechanic to straightened the forks, put some spacers between the carbs and the engine (the frame was sufficiently bent so that the carbs no longer reached the engine) and then he re-sold the bike for $800. As you can see, on impact my knees hit the handlebars. Lots of inflamation and calcium build-up... ![]() and about 3 months of physical therapy. humm... 1st bikes... the memories make my knees ache... configurationspace screwed with this post 02-05-2004 at 09:52 AM |

My first non functional bike was a Suzuki T500
Put about $ 2000,- in it. Made it this far: ![]() Sold it for $ 500,- to an enthousiast. First working bike: Yam XT250 2V Learned to ride on this one. I could draw circles on the tarmac with the footpegs. What a hoot to ride.

Ah, first bikes, only had one of those
This was is, a `78 Honda CX500! The ideal beginners bike: doesn`t brake, doesn`t stear, doesn`t go fast, doesn`t break : If one turns up I`ll probably find it hard to refuse. I did over 150K miles with this particular one. what a shame that I sold it...

A 1976 Kawasaki KZ750 twin....by far the worst handling bike I have owned but......it was reliable(70,000 miles) and just what I needed as a starving student in Phoenix.
