Adventure ride planning?

Hi Kaibigan
I am coming to Manila in December until the first week of January and am wondering if I rent a duely from Nice bikes, will I be able to find another rider to show me around the north for a couple or three days? I would love to ride the Luzon loop if possible? Any one here looking at doing this around the time I am over? I will be staying at my asawas house in Cainta.
Salamat

If you don't find anyone to go with you, it's quite an easy ride to do, especially if you have a GPS.

I did a lot of this in 2006 in a rental car (no GPS) and more in 2012 by bus, and it's really not very difficult to find your way.

If you go to the touring section on the Motorcycle Philippines forum, there are several threads on doing the loop. Plenty of places to stay as well, although IMHO the north coast isn't as oriented towards western tourists as you'd expect.

One issue is that this is prime travel season with a lot of OFWs returning, so you may want to pre-book hotels in popular areas like Vigan, Pagudpod and Banaue.

I researched a few routes through this area for a planned ride that we still have to do, drop me a PM if you don't get any other feedback.

BTW, this trip is quite doable in 3 days, but you really won't be doing the area justice. Banaue is worth spending 2 days, Vigan, Pagudpud, Sagada and Baguio are also worth spending some time.
Plus many of the more interesting mountain routes are a little slow going, assuming that you route through the Cordillera.

Caramoan ride adventure report

It's been quite a while since i've ridden to the provinces. Well here I am again sharing the beautiful islands the Philippines/Caramoan (this is where most of the reality show "Survivor" is being shot) Camarines Sur Bicol region has to offer.
As usual, taking off on an evening saving time from what a long weekend has to offer.
500++ kilometers 1 way of hot, cold, wet and dry conditions through pavement and off road mountain terrain mixed with tarmac, twisties, gravel, mud, ruts, rockies, sleep deprived, exhausted, starved, diaper rash, butt, back and neck sore, 1 recovered slip, companion tip over on the ruts, 1 tire puncture en route and 1 on the way back, lost,4/all lane non moving traffic jam going home. 14 hours on the way and 15 hours back saddle time. It was all worth it!

Our first meal stop. A fast food near th junction heading towards naga bicol.

After several hours of riding on pavement and hudreds of pot holes, we reach this area. Somehow entering a mountain region.

Road construction was starting for some parts of the mountain for caramoan to be more accessible by land. Good thing we were able to ride this place before it turns into a concrete hiway.

Here's our first glimpse of the sea. Looking at a map, this ocean would be on the right side of camarines sur, our destination was on the ocean on the left side. It would only take 100++ kilometers to cross the mountain, had we only known that the last few KILL-ometers would take us 5hours.

A fishing village along the way.

The way ahead is a mixture of pavement then would suddenly be cut off surprising you with mud, gravel, rockies, puddles or ruts.

I had to wait for my ride buddies at this part thinking that I might be lost.

Finally here they are, tired barely could smile and curious how far we have to go.

Finally we arrive at Paniman beach Caramoan. This hut wll be our home for 2 nights. Paniman being our jump off point for our island hopping tour.

Feels good to get out of those mud drenched wet boots.

We arrived later than expected, due to a flat tire, and being lost for some time. Gps was goofy at times. Just had an afternoon walk and buy drinks to cap th night off.

The following morning, we decided to go to town to buy food for our island tour. We passed by this beautiful church on the way.

Rustic town of Caramoan, beautiful.

A friend doing a little souvenir shopping on the side.

My friend posing in what we wish was our banca/boat to the islands.

All aboard!

What our home for 2 nights looks like from afar.

It was a gloomy saturday morning. Our first view of the islands to visit.

The rest would be photos of the beautiful islands of Caramoan. Certainly a sight for sore eyes.

We are truly blessed with fine white sand beaches.

Can't stay too long in 1 place, got more islands to hop on to.
Mr. Sun finally shows up.

Matukad island is where we docked to have our lunch. Givi boxes were so helpful.

Standing on higher ground to take photos.

Yes we cooked our own food. Survivor style! Damn fish and squid were so good!

Here's our kitchen.

And the view from ou kitchen window.

The only luxurious item we have on the island. A plastic table, lent to us by the boatman. Not so survivor-ish after all...but it was all good

Lunch is served, comprised of fresh fish and squid, rice, tomatoes and onions.

I went rock climbing after having my lunch to take a bird's eye view pictures of the island. Wll post it later on. Meanwhile here's more pictures of other islands.
