Last ride for my wee
I made about half of my 8000 mile ride before I crashed.
My son was retiring from the Navy so we decided to go for a ride to celibrate. I live in north east Oreygun, and he is in Bremerton, so I rode the 402 miles to his house a few days before we were to start. Just to get things off on the right foot my chain started making noise before I got to Bremerton. I should have changed it before starting the trip, I know, but the chain and rear sprocket looked great. Guess what, no sprokets in the greater Seattle area, so we had to order one from Ca. Son, Tod was going to ride his FULLY PREPED 2008 KLR 650. Because of my waiting for parts we got a late start by a couple of days. July 2nd and we were loaded and off we went.

Okay I am a dumb a$$
My photo didn't show up..
We made it through Vancouver with the much needed help of our GPS as there was a lot of construction. The ride from there to Whistler was beautiful. Some construction getting ready for the olympics but the ride is one heck of a way to start a trip. We camped near Whistler in an okay camp ground with about 4,000,000, skeeters. One thing we learned right here on our first night was to put some deet on our buns.. Did you know that skeeters live in out houses? The next day we started north again with the intent of doing about 300 miles a day. We were feeling like we were really on our way now. We wanted to go to Fort Nelson then to Hyder. From there we were going up the Cassier to Watson Lake. Watson lake to Dawson then up the Dempster to Inuvik. Back down the Dempster to Dawson then over the Top of The World to Fairbanks. From Fairbanks to Dead Horse and back. After that we were kind of playing it by ear as we ony had a month and would have to pick and choose where we went in order to be back in Bremerton in time for son Tod to go back to his boat. As it turned out we didn't have to worry about the last half of the trip.

Bike died
We camped in a nice camp ground the next night and then took of for Prince George. Things kind of went to $#% about here. Did I mention that it rained on us for at least part of the day nearly every day? We got so used to it that we didn't hardly notice anymore. We got to within about 30 miles of P-G when in a driving rain and thunder storm Tod's bike stopped, died and totally quit. This was the second time in a couple of hours. The first time was in the parking lot of a very nice cafe. We tore into the bike and soon figured out that there was no spark. After messing with it for a while, we had spark back. Not because we did anything to fix it, it just did. So when it died again, we called AAA. (never leave home without it) It took a tow truck from P-G about 40 min to get to us. They hauled us to the Kawasaki shop in P-G where we met the greatest people on earth.
They put us to the head of the line and spent the rest of the day trying to fix an intermediate electrical problem. They found us rooms for the night and hauled us over there. The next morning (Sat.), they picked us up and took us back to the shop. They took the only KLR they had off the showroom floor and used it for a parts bike trying to find our problem. Finally, sometime after closing time, we took the bike for a 40 mile round trip test ride and the bike worked great. Saying our good byes, we took off for Vanderhoof.
