Tasmania - Bruny Island Weekender

The trip was organised here http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=384114.

When I left work in Hobart it was raining. By the time I got home to Taroona, 10km further south, it started to look more promising with the odd patches of blue amongst the clouds.

Caught up with Brian (the new Mr Tweety, but not on ADV yet) at the ferry in Kettering.

Departing Kettering.

The view to Bruny Island. People on the piss already.

Our Fri nite camp at the 'Duck Pond' (Barnes Bay on Bruny Island).

Brian Tweety-hatted and dispensing wisdom or humour or whatever.

Next morning, back at the ferry terminal. Phil & Cheyenne had already caught us at camp, thus we're 3 bikes now.

Soon after the shot below Rod 'Ole Grey Fart' made an appearance on his DR650 and Andre 'AndreEnduro' in his car.

Nice to meet Rod for the first time, top bloke. Frightening sense of humour. Not sure that the young bloke from QLD will ever be the same again after he'd finsihed with him (talking about Wolf Creek and other adventures).

Andre looked seedy. Mumbled something about tourism award dinner last nite and being the first one to leave at 4am ... piss-weak really isn't it?!?!!!

Andre went home to get the DR and meet us later at the Hothouse Cafe.

The rest went the North Bruny loop.

Looking south down the Channel. Kettering somewhere on the right behind one of the points.

On the eastern side of Bruny now, looking towards Fort Direction. Blue-helmeted Cheyenne is bored by it all & gets creative.

Cheyenne finishing the big on the road while Rod wanders off in search of a better perspective.

Cheyenne raced me to the top of Lookout Hill on the neck. I lost. All the other old farts down there talking about Brian's little topple adventure.

Looking south.

Looking north.

At the Hothouse Cafe - Brian, Andre & Rod.

All the way down south now at the Cape Bruny lighthouse.

Cheyenne seems to like her dad.

All those wet looking clouds on the mainland of Tas ... we had a virtually dry weekend.

Ah yes, Andre said something about seeing Andrew at the ferry terminal on Friday just as he turned around and went back home ... musta've been scared of the clouds.

Taylors Bay camp ground. Fuddy had arrived late Sat arvo. Strange seeing him hooning in on that rather regal looking BMW. Even stranger looking with off-road helmet.

Fuddy ready to go. Cheyenne poking her head out of the tent.

Everyone was keener than me to get off the island, so I trundled back on my own. Time to take more pics and another visit to the Hothouse Cafe. :-)

View back south to the Bruny lighthouse.

View over Taylors Bay. Last nite's camp roughly above the XJ's windscreen on the other side of the first patch of water. A top spot!!!

On the Alonnah jetty.

At the junction just below the Hothouse Cafe.

Looking north. Mount Wellington in the distance, that's where Hobart is (Capital of Tas).

The road to the ferry terminal on the Bruny Island side.

Great pics! It's a pity the weather looked crap (and I had a cold). Maybe next time!

Great report. Yeah, Tasmania is a beautiful place. Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I was there with the USS Enterprise in the late 70's. Met an elderly business man in downtown Hobart that took me and a buddy home to meet his family and feed us supper. That Cascade was some tasty piss.

I'd love to tour Tas on a bike.

Once more departing from Kettering on Fri Nite.
