Laugh Noob ride 2: 3 KLRs & largest state forest in the southern hemisphere

This time around we had an extra ugly bloke on an ugly bike making it 3 KLRs: an 09, 08 and my 05. The destination was Barakula State Forest in Queensland, Australia which is a logging forest that features a mixture of cypress pine, cabbage gum and ironbark trees and dirty great big logging trucks to watch out for. About 400 kms from Brisbane:

First up some video mixing up some tarmac from up the Toowoomba range, hard gravel roads and some soft sandy trails on the way out:

Having a breather at Toowoomba:

Arrival at the closest town, Chinchilla:

Mmm pub parma:

This is the entrance to the park, noone to be found at the office, I think it's mainly in use to coordinate logging activites:

Pretty soon the track turned from hard gravel, to rutted gravel to a really fine sand/bulldust kind of material and things started to get real. I short, sand is evil!

Shortly after this I hit a big patch of bulldust and went down, no probs. Then the 09 KLR got christened, you can see the mess in the sand just near the back tyre:

But we made it! Dogwood creek campsite is beautiful, backs onto a creek with plenty of water. Only downside was plenty of mossies going buck wild at night and we almost got carried away.

Good times! Noone went down on the way out, the main difference was we were taking it slow enough to feel the front wheel get redirected by the sand and ruts. Some back brake and a quick clutch hand also helped. What a weekend, can't wait for the next one.
