Death Valley 2008

I've been riding in Death Valley - Been there three time between Feb 20th and Yesterday... Multiple day rides on various bikes... with my favorite riding partner; My Wife

I'm pretty lucky to have a girl who rides and takes chances...

I'm busy putting some pictures and videos (first time on YouTube so be gentle) together...

Pictures more than words here; I hope it inspires someone to get over there, like those I have read have inspired me.

I am leaving Thursday morning for a overnight ride to DV with my brother-in-law and my wife's cousin. Doing the street version though. Should be great! We are staying in Furnace Creek at the Ranch on Friday night. I have never been through the area so I am looking forward to it .

just getting back from my first trip to DV myself. great place , great riding , can't wait to go back. rode down from sf bay area via bakersfield, lake isabella ,ridgcrest, china lake trona( pinnacles) , then two days in dv up 190 to 395 through lone pine bishop to carson city. overnight there and home tomorrow. loved your videos. can't wait to show them to my wife.

OH yes. Since the first time I went - April 2007 - I've been back at least 12 times. I simply love it there. Every time I get a few days in a row, I head out. My wife is a good sport about it. She loves the challenge and the desert. It gives us time to take some chances and get to know ourselves a bit more.

This is a pictorial presentation from Feb 2008 - Death Valley - on the big bikes.

There is some Titus Canyon, West Side, Teakettle Junction, Race Track, Salt Creek, and such. First time for my wife in the dirt on the Dakar... She did great; never dropped it and smiled the whole time.

And the Saliva soundtrack is pretty cool too!

Okay, thought I'd add some pictures from our Trip in Mid-March. Some pretty nice conditions if I'm honest. Loved it.

Teakettle Junction under the clouds gives some very interesting tones:



One question I have is; There are only kettles there from fairly recent travelers. How come? Does the park service remove them after a time or do other travelers remove them? My wife and I were wondering about this.

Each day we went out riding we always said, "Okay last night was the last night we ride past sunset". But somehow we always did... always thinking, "Just a few more minutes down this road" or "just a few more pictures here" or "hell with it, we'll do better tomorrow."

There's just too much to see and so little time to see it - even if you have multiple days to ride... it's a real jungle and I don't know how we struggled through the trauma of it

Here's one of my favorites - Perhaps I'll post one or two because when it comes to photography; I'm a fan!





This is an extraordinary place if you get the chance. I saw some people walk out to the rocks; walking right over the trails that take forever to appear and forever to heal footprints in! Anyway they walked out, pulled out a cellphone, took a picture, and walked back to their car...

Not to appear (hopefully) aloof, but damn, sometimes your have to stop and smell the roses (or rocks) and take stock of where you're standing... dunno, could be I'm an asshole.


Seriously I think when you're on the Playa you might want to take some very good care of the place you're in; I mean for God's sake leaving marks that take years to repair really does ruin the place for those coming behind.
