Here's a shot from last weekend; Panamint Valley along Indian Springs Road towards Golar Wash. This picture doesn't really capture it but there it is...

Cheers

Here's a funny (at least to me ) picture. We were making our way through Titus Canyon in Late February... We'd stopped to take on some water and to get my wife settled into her Dakar/fairly new to nobbies/fairly new to the sandy-rocky conditions. She was a trooper; really, fearless!

Anyway, along comes some people in a small SUV... They say, "I think I just ran over a part from your bikes". I am confused until he says, "A piece of black plastic."

I know immediately what he's talking about; the little plastic scoop that purportedly keeps mud and other debris from the back of the rider... can't remember the technical term for it; mud flap maybe. Either way, it'd lasted me to that point for 12500 very hard (I think) miles, and it's one of those parts on the GS that you "either take off or break off" (as a man put it to me a few hours later when we were talking about it). Suffice it to say, I didn't shed a tear over it; I did, however, take a picture - hopefully in the proper ADVRider style!

There it is...

Cheers

Every time we go to Death Valley it's imperative we visit the tiny Pup Fish at Salt Creek. Pretty nice to watch the evolution; or more appropriately de-evolution of the creek and the various water levels.

Amazing creatures the Pup Fish. They live and breed and die in a tiny section of the creek where they lay their eggs and then burrow into the mud when the water goes away - which it does every May or so - until the rains and the waters of fall/ winter. When you think of the life that once teemed in the lake (Lake Manly) that used to be Death Valley and the fact that only a few species adapted to the saltier and more harsh conditions that now exist, it's amazing to see them!

And now to take a break from the Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom for a second

This is just a shot of the walkway... again if you go it's important to stay on the walkway to preserve the environment.

You know it just occurred to me: I'm really not a dope smoking, sandal wearing, commie or anything... I'm really quite the opposite but you know I feel this is important stuff.

>...Editorial OFF!

Cheers

The skies were cloudless; which doesn't bode well for photographers normally, but they are so absolutely BLUE. Incredible.

Another view of Salt Creek; the parking area.

We camped one night at Stove Pipe; really just a spot in the parking lot for your tent but very nice I guess... It did have flush toilets if you have to have such things.

The restaurant across the way was very good! I had a tasty pasta meal... and a few so in the morning I had a bit of a headache - probably just slept funny right?

This is the morning - the moon in the blue sky was striking.

Cheers

As far as Software I use Apple's Final Cut Studio Pro 2 - a bit of overkill for such a short but it's what I am most comfortable with; and it's fast as hell!

Thank you for your comments.

The deserts here are some of the most beautiful country I've ridden in. Sweden would be a trip of the lifetime thing for sure!

Cheers

Before we road through Titus Canyon we visited Ryolite. If you're into old buildings that could speak a novel if they could talk, this is the place for you. I personally love these old towns - asking the why's and the wherefores about the demise of it. As usual there seemed to be far too little signage and information about the place... but what there was was very interesting.

Here is a sort of overview:

The colors in the desert - especially in the evening - are absolutely beautiful.

Great pics and video, thanks for sharing.

I'm heading to DV on the 21st. I'll be in the redwoods and Moterey this coming week with the family for our kids spring break. After we get back, I'm packing up and heading that way. You video and pic's have really whetted my appetite.
