Medical insurance?
Ozy's thread got me thinking- one should probably get some insurance for trips...
Im a noob when it comes to insurance as ive never used any kind, im self employed (if you want to call it that) so i have no clue what the process is here. After some research the only recommendation i found was patriot travel insurance. I read through it and it looks good for a traveler in the us/canada.. Will this cover injuries and such if one goes asphault surfing? http://www.imglobal.com/coverage/patriot/ Edit: looks like you have to leave the country for this one.. the search continues. artk screwed with this post 04-01-2008 at 08:05 PM |

I guess I don't understand what your asking. Do you need insurance for inside the US or for traveling outside? The Patriot is a damn good policy backed by a damn good company. I have heard first hand accounts of missionaries that have benefited greatly from them. If it is for inside the US, just call a local independent agent, your local BlueCross office, or look in the phone book.

insurance
Also if you carry credit cards check out what kind of insurance they offer or include in your package or if it can amount to worthwhile saving if you insure through them.

Ameriplan or americhoice... I know there is a "discount" program that is called Ameriplan that is a rip off. It is NOT insurance and you would do better to keep the cost for that in your pocket. You're screwed if you have a serious medical situation and that is all you have.

Americhoice
I called around and all of the short term medical insurance isnt available to NY residents ![]() Next step was land travel insurance that featured medical but none of the companies were clear if motorcycling was covered and even if it was it is a reimbursement policy (you bring them the paid bill and then they decide if they will reimburse it) |

Call your current insurance provider and ask if you're covered abroad. My wife and I are riding down to Panama this summer (wet season) and I called my provider and (Blue Cross PPO) and they said we are covered. Hmmm...I should probably get that writing.

When I spoke with Blue Cross they told me I'm covered, but I must pay first, then submit for reimbursement.
