I too was scared of going away from the RFS but the newer ones are awesome. I love my 09 450EXC and my Rally Moto Kit for the Mex1K

With your recommendations to go with a newer bike, i'm now thinking if the top end of this 450 can be swapped with a 530 kit ?

Ned, what about that 570 kit you were mentioning (IIRC) earlier in this thread ? Will it fit a 450 bottom ?

cheers
Difference between 450/530 is stroke, not bore. So, it's a new crank and cylinder (which is longer), plus CDI and cam to go 530. Same list of parts gets you a 570, and the SXS kit is a pretty good deal for them all in my opinion.

But, to be fair, the 450 is still my favorite version of this motor, not having ridden the 570 yet.

Okay cam experts, please confirm that this is the newer style cam. I have looked at the pics of both, but want a second opinion.

I bought the bike used and the seller claimed it had been updated, but it still gives me problems starting. I have perfected the art of the "simultaneous button and kickstarter".

I'm in the middle of tightening the torque limiter and wanted to double check the cam too.

Thx!

Does anybody have a recommendations for spring rates for a 220lb (W/O gear) rider?

Might want to check the valves while there. If they're off it could cause hard starting too. I converted to the 09 cam and did the valves at the same time, still on stock battery but upgraded stator to Trail Tech full DC. Starts with no trouble.

Thanks for the reminder. Will check valves tonight.

And thanks for the 2nd set of eyes on the 09 Cam.

Are you changing them out yourself?
MX-Tech has one:
http://www.mx-tech.com/#2

RaceTech too:
http://racetech.com/VehicleSearch

In my experience if you change springs you should re-valve to match.

I have been extremely happy with the service from Alex at Konflict Motorsports in Redmond WA. http://konflictmotorsports.com/
