Thanks for taking the time to weigh it in for me. Good to hear that they are pretty accurate on the weights they are listing. Do you see any heavy hitters that could be removed/replaced to reduce the weight?

Now take it out, wring it out and report back

The manual lists "wet weight" (oil + full fuel) at 298lbs for the CA model (which is what I have), so I'd say their number is pretty close, since I ran a bit of fuel out of the tank yesterday having fun.

I have to say though, pushing it around the garage, and definitely while riding, she carries her weight well, because I'd swear this bike weighs less than my KTM 520 which was listed at approx. 250lbs dry, where the WRR is listed at 278lbs dry.

I've been looking at other posts on the same topic, and looking at the bike, and if you really wanted to shed pounds, the first place I'd go is the exhaust. That cat converter must be pretty heavy. Trouble is, what to do about the EXUP valve? Maybe the aftermarket will help solve that one.

Other than that, I'd say the license plate holder/rear turn signal assembly could probably go and be replaced with some lighter parts. I think the LED brake light is already pretty light, so I wouldn't look there. Maybe swap out the steel handlebars with some nice aluminum ones, and look at swapping the front turn signals for smaller ones. At that point you're down to saving ounces, not pounds.

If I had to take a WAG at it, I'd say there's at most 20 lbs of "easy" weight to lose. Any more than that will likely start costing some bigger $$ (i.e. titanium bits here and there).

Thanks for checking, NoVector. I didn't think there was one for the 49-state model, but thought there might be for the CA model.

There is. There's a cat converter in the gigantic muffler (honeycomb type, according to the docs), and there's an air injection system as well (can't see where that is, but haven't looked too close). I don't see a "charcoal cannister" as can be found on other bikes, which is the only other anti-smog type device that I can think of that might be lurking around.

I waited a long time to find something I can stick a license plate on without having to register in Vermont with a disguise on.

great write up. can't wait to take mine home. good luck finding one of these in July.

You got the only one out that sucks....You know that right????

The passenger pegs, the helmet lock come to mind. Then put on a "real" skid plate and a good set of handguards and you're right back to the where you started. Still better than doing nothing and ending up heavier.

Quick update

I was just out in the garage dinkin' around, getting the new beastie set up for some ridin' this weekend, and came across the following:

1) Forks were 1 click different from each other for both compression and rebound. I realize that's a PDI thing, but you all might want to check to make sure the tech got yours right. 1 click probably won't matter much, but 2+ might.

2) Sag was right on the money at 10% (about 1"), so my bike came set up for a 190lb rider.

3) I found the charcoal cannister. It's at the front of the engine, behind the front-facing part of the (cheesy) skid plate. Since it's very low, and forward, I'll likely leave it alone....for now....

All for now. All set to get her dirty this weekend....

What's interesting is I read yet another review of the WRR today, and the reviewer stated that he was told by Yamaha that the ECU could compensate for an aftermarket pipe without EXUP support. I'm not sure how that's possible without a closed circuit, unless the EXUP has very little impact on emissions, and just effects low-end power?

Exactly!

If you want to see just how "timely" this little beast can go, check out Akira putting it through it's paces on the track!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=wID5IeCc3Xs&feature=related

Not bad for a bike that can go 26k miles between valve checks....

Congrats on your purchase. We all want pics, because we all want to see how a WRR that sucks looks compared to the others....
