if that is rust, then unlikely. it knocked the plating off. there are places that can rechrome the tubes or buy new/used.

For anyone that has done this do I just reattach everything on the new guards or do I need to touch anything else?

Thanks
What is this reshaping you speak of?

I suppose when SM wheels are installed the white guards interfere, correct?

Thanks for the fantastic links, ba_ !

I know it gets tiring answering the WR nOOBs questions over and over in a thread like this, I appreciate the patience.

I had a fuse blow out on the WR last night. The one for the turn signals. The dash went out too but it stayed running until I turned it off. It wouldn't start after I turned it off though. I replaced the fuse and everything seems fine. Not sure why it blew out though. I checked the wires and none looked frayed or anything...

Stock turn signals?

This might be a noob idea, but could there be moisture in the signal housing or around the relay that shorted it out?

It was probably just a one-time thing. Kinda scary that could happen while you're on a trip or something and you'd be in trouble...

I hope that's all it was. It was raining at the time. I had a feeling it wouldn't start so I didn't turn it off until I got home. ;) I thought maybe the battery was low but it was fine.

I've got less than 2500 miles on two wheels and I'm riding almost daily to build up my skills and stamina. I'd like to do a 1200 mile mixed-surface ride down to North Carloina (Deal's Gap) and back. How many miles or hours a day do you think is reasonable on a WRR? My route will use US Highways, but no Interstates.

Thanks,
Joe

Depends on the weather, the type of trip, and the rider. Lots of dirt i'd say 250 max. Lots of pavement 500 max, but if you're in sight seeing mode probably closer to 350.

Do I just go with the R sprocket on the SM wheels
or, given the smaller size of these wheels, is there a recommended alternative sprocket size to use?
Anybody?

I had that thought a few years too, using R hubs and lighter aftermarket 17" wheels, but what I ran into, is(was) there is no off the shelf spoke to fit that combo. Forest( At Wheeling), has obviously gotten some sourced or made.
