Ortlieb Dry Bag Saddlebags

Has anyone used, or otherwise know anything about these saddlebags?

Right now it's between these and the Nelson Rigg CL850. I kinda like the profile of these.

I have a set of the yellow ones for my wee. They hold a lot of stuff and are waterproof, just like advertised. I bought them because I didn't want the expense or permanence of hard bags. No pics handy, but I can take one if you need me to.

Thanks. I love to see pics if you get the chance.

Ortlieb bags

I have a set of the yellow ones on my KLR. They work very well. Plenty of room, stable, easy on and off, and absolutely waterproof. Highly recommended!

I see those are low profile. Didn't realize they made those. I have the bigger ones like pic'd above.

One of the very best motorcycle-related buys I've made.

They turned my Duke II hooligan toy into a hooligan grocery-getter.

Gadget, do you have the low profile ones? or the "standard" ones? I'm considering the LPs for my KLR, but would like to have some comments.

I use the narrower 9005's for dualsporting
Good quality, waterproof(no need for plastic bags inside). Only suggested improvement is they should have more vertical space. Volume is only 1400 cu inch

i had been looking at the low pro ones earlyer, but didn't realize that they came in yellow. one element that i couldn't figure out is if they could be aultered to attach to the bike ina more secure fashion. is there a way to abandon the "over the saddle" straps and still secure the bags short of bungy cords and prayers? i'm leaving on a month trip right after laborday, but would gladly change my luggage plans to use these, in yellow of course.

I've got the standard sized Ortliebs in yellow. One of the highest quality pieces of equipment I've ever bought. Well worth the money.

Yes, there is a setup that clips to a rack. Of course, you have to have a rack that is suitable. AFAIK, they were orig. designed to work with bicycle racks....

I had a setup with the low-profile bags on my KLR - used it on a 2-week trip, and it worked just fine.

Question required distance from exhaust?

...Ortlieb's site recommends 4" space from the exhaust to the bag to avoid melting the material..the Big Gun Evo on my KLR is only about 2" from the rack I have...what do you guys think? Asking for trouble, or should that be enough space?

I hang them right against the pipes on the V-Strom but they never get to hot to touch with a bare hand.
I figure the bare hand test is good for most of that stuff.
