07 XChallenge Engine Problem-Piston Broken

Hi Folks:
Pulled the engine out of my 07 XChallenge because it was pumping oil from the crankcase to the air filter box. Did a compression check and a leak down with very poor results.
Upon disassembly I found the piston had signs of detonation at the intake side close to the edge. Once the cylinder came off I could see that one of the ring lands had broken and the piece was still in there
Also, another ring land had one break in it and was moving up and down once the rings were off. Fortunately no damage to the cylinder walls.
The piston is cast with the inscription 99.99mm on the top. Stock.
My reason for this post is to ask the assembled knowledge if anyone knows of a Forged replacement piston for the 99.99mm stock piston and where to purchase it?
I don't want to bore the Nikasil cylinder but am open to a larger Nikasil cylinder with a forged piston. I suspect there were race bits for this engine since it has been in a number of bikes and quads.
Also, any info on a top end gasket kit would be highly appreciated.

Thanks, cheers, Frank
PS I have pics if anyone wants to see 'em.

Porsche 944 turbo pistons are that diameter. They are pocketed so not sure if they're any use.

Thanks magno. An interesting alternative, I'll take a look at them. If the other dimensions are suitable and the pins match, it might work. Cheers, Frank

Also JE pistons do a forged one for the bombardier ds650 quad which I think is the same motor.

I'm looking for a 650cc size adventure bike and am interested in the x challenge or x country (prefer the x challenge) But not having the opportunity to ride one was wondering how much vibration from this motor got into the bars? Owned a ktm 690 for a short time and loved the smoothness and power and was wondering how the x compared?

You don't really find too many people saying the X-Challenge is buzzy. Overall, I noticed the vibration from the engine more than I did on my DRZ, but I just attributed it to the bigger displacement. The bars do have rubber isolators, so I don't think you really have to worry about numb hands.

On a related note, the new Husky TR650 has a similar engine to the X bikes, but owners rave about how smooth it is. It's a little more street biased than the X-challenge, probably more similar to the X-Country, but might be worth a look. Brand new, they're only about 2K more than a used X bike goes for and has a range that approaches 200 miles.

You might want to give LA Sleeve a call about a piston. They do a lot of custom stuff so can probably set you up.

Yes, I have been in discussion with them. Unfortunately their powersports tech has been sick. I hope he will be in today.
I have looked at the specs for their piston online. With what specs they have there and what I know about the DS 650 and the G650X engine, I am cautiously hopeful the piston will work.
What I do know is the piston pin is identical in diameter to mine. The bore and stroke of both engines is the same. I don't know the compression height of the DS piston but it was done for racing and has an 11.5 to 1 rating. I haven't been able to find the advertised CR for the XC engine but it is probably slightly lower than 11.5, maybe 10 to 10.5 since the FI and computer can deal with that easily.
I also don't know if it has valve pockets. If so, then it is definitely taller than my flat top piston. But it may work.
I will know more once the tech comes back.
Thanks for your info. I talked with CT Racing but they weren't much help.
Cheers, Frank
